Performance Specification For

Battlefield Effects Simulator (BES) III

1 Scope.

This Performance Specification defines the work required to be performed for the Project Manager Training Devices (PM TRADE) for the Battlefield Effects Simulator (BES) III contract. This effort will provide for the basic production, integration, verification, fielding and installation of a training aide(s) replicating range effects in support of training. This includes other associated efforts such as integration services, logistics support, training and technical data for the procurement and/or fielding of systems on various range types throughout the Army.

1.1 Background.

The United States Army has a requirement to provide a training device designed to provide real-time feedback to units conducting Force-On-Target (FOT) tactical training and provide realistic battlefield effects. The system will be used in day and night range exercise for visual and acoustic target recognition at stationary range positions with a target mechanism (stationary) or mounted on a moving target platform. The system is designed to produce a flash/bang and smoke signature which simulates/replicates a large caliber weapon fire of a hostile threat and/or an impact round on an armor target. The system is a core feature in support of live fire ranges throughout the Army as identified within T raining Circular (TC) 25-8.

Multiple PEO STRI programs such as the Future Army Systems of Integrated Targets (FASIT), Combat Training Centers (CTCs), Instrumented Ranges (Digital Range Training System (DRTS)) are reliant on the BES system in order to support the training mission requirements.

2 Applicable documents.
