About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a federal contract solicitation regarding the design and installation of a pre-finished metal panel canopy system with integrated structural, electrical, drainage, and site work components.

The project requires a performance-specified canopy system (not proprietary) designed and stamped by a professional engineer licensed in New York, with structural framing conforming to AISC 360 standards and hot-dip galvanized steel components. The roof and soffit panels must be 3-inch by 16-inch smooth white panels with 20-gauge minimum thickness and a baked enamel finish backed by a 20-year limited warranty against peeling, flaking, and chipping. The integral box gutter system requires pre-finished steel with 24-gauge thickness for center and tapered sections and 20-gauge for perimeter sections. Structural elements include stacked I-beam construction with bolted ASTM A325/A325M field connections, specified anchor bolts (ASTM A307, 1-1/4 inch nut and washer, minimum 23-inch embedment, 7-inch exposed thread with 1/4-inch placement tolerance), and hot-dip galvanized base plates with field painting. The roof assembly consists of pre-finished metal panels installed directly on galvanized structural framing with no underlayment or insulation required, with a minimum 1:12 slope if the system is engineered as hydrostatic with factory-applied seam sealant. The Period of Performance is 180 days, covering lead time for shop drawings, government review, and material delivery. The project includes new 6-inch PVC storm drainage infrastructure (no connection to existing system), site grading adjustments to achieve 18-inch minimum cover over storm pipes, and electrical connections to the guard booth with panel schedules provided. Approved equal manufacturers are acceptable provided they meet specified performance criteria outlined in Section 10 53 80 of the Project Specifications.

8) Please clarify the conflict between the downspout detail shown on Detail A3/C-501 and the pier footing detail shown on Detail A1/S-101(see attached). Detail A3/C-501 indicates the downspout elbow connection and pipe routing are to extend a minimum of 3'-0" below grade with concrete encasement, while the structural pier footing detail on S-101 to extend 2'-6" below grade within the same area. Please provide guidance on the intended routing and required clearances between the storm piping and canopy foundation system.

Please see Drawing Revision which deconflicts downspout placement and foundation footer. Below is a written description of the change:

Roof leader storm drains shall be placed above the foundation to achieve positive drainage to the storm lateral that discharges to the east on the existing bank. Minor adjustments to finish grades of the new concrete will be issued as an ASI to achieve a minimum of 18" of cover over the storm pipes.
