46) Given the top of water line under the apron is 10', is a sleeve/casing require? If so, what diameter, and what type of joints are required for the water piping? (Reference DWG C-1.1)
Answer: A sleeve will be required to house the insulated water line. The water line is nominal 8", with 2" of insulation around it. Outer pipe sleeve should be 14" min diameter to allow for pipe to be inside the sleeve. A minimum of 10 ft joints are acceptable.
47) Please confirm the jack-n-bore section of fire main loop does not require heat trace. (Reference DWG C-1.1)
Answer: Provide heat tape on the jack and bore section, with 2" insulation around the pipe. Provide pull points at each end and J boxes in utilidor for replacing heat tape if needed in the future.
48) If the under-apron section of pipe is in direct contact with earth, is a corrosion protection system such as sacrificial anodes, required? (Reference DWG C-1.1)
Answer: Anodes shall be put in if ductile iron pipe is used for direct contact with soil. See question 47 for additional details on pipe.
49) What are the existing swale inverts on the north (plan left) and south (plan right) sides of B1171? (Reference
DWG C-1.1)
Answer: See attached revised drawing C-1.1 with elevations taken from the sheet C3.1 from the original design/construction drawings.
50) Given the anticipated 11' - 12' depth of excavation (below 543.3') what is the footing structure of B1171?
(required to prevent undermining) (Reference DWG C-1.1)
Answer: Refer As-Built for detail. Due to Alaska climate, footing is primarily supported below the frost line. All perimeter wall is supported on Frost wall below grade and on continuous footing. All steel column is supported on concrete pedestals and on spread footing. All steel braced frame column footing is connected with concrete grade beam and footing. The area of influence from bottom of footer is a 1:1 slope. The Utilidor edge is approximately 14 feet away from the edge of the existing structure. Bottom of footers are a minimum of 6’ below finished floor. At a 1:1 influence, the 12’ excavation depth will not impact the area of influence of the existing footers.
51) Specifications state, "B1171 will remain in operation by the occupants to the greatest extent practicable . . . " It is unlikely any contractor would choose to work over an aircraft parked in the hangar; is this prohibited? If suspected service operations require use of the floor to work on jets, would the Gov't provide a quantity of times and distinct durations the hangar bay will be unavailable to the Contractor? (Reference 01 30 00, 1.1.b)
Answer: Contractor work in the hangar is generally incompatible with aircraft maintenance work. See answer to Question 38.
52) Are five sets of color boards truly required for this project? According to the submittal register following 01 45 00, each specification section calling for finishes requires samples. This paragraph is usually reserved for Design- Build proposals. (Reference 01 30 00, 1.3)
Answer: 5 sets of color boards are not necessary. Digital samples indicating color and finish are acceptable for submittal review.
53) Please confirm as-built CAD files, as well as the solicitation's design drawings, will be made available after award for Contractor use in developing shop drawings and new Record Drawings? (Reference 01 78 00, 1.3)
Answer: Hard copy record drawings are available for review. .dwg files from the design can be made available after award. .dwg files from original construction can be made available after award, however, they may not fully reflect the as-built or current facility configuration, and the contractor must verify accuracy of any record information provided.
54) Is the Contractor able to disregard the "Design Phase" commissioning activities? (Reference 01 91 00, 3.1)
Answer: Yes.
55) The Division 02 specifications insinuate a large range of known hazardous materials/wastes are in B1171.
