About this file
This is a Procurement Specification for bar grating to be used as roof decking on the Vertical Detector (VD) Cryostat for the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) / Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) project, dated September 16, 2026. The specification was prepared by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy and is managed by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG).
The vendor must provide galvanized (hot-dipped) bar grating with specific dimensions and performance characteristics: 1-1/2" bearing bar height, 3/16" thickness, 48" nominal unsupported span, and maximum 1" clear spacing between bearing bars. The grating must support a minimum live load of 100 PSF for personnel, a concentrated line load of 1,000 lbs at mid-span, a self-weight dead load of 11 PSF, and achieve a maximum deflection of 0.25". Maximum panel width is 2'-0", with panel sizes specified in FFDG-provided reference drawings. Associated hardware must include clips designed to clamp to the top flange of cryostat roof beams (W44x290) and/or spacer beams (W10x49). Post-award deliverables include sized bar grating meeting all technical requirements, customer support for installation and operational questions, operator's manuals, and a logistics and shipping plan. Delivery is required to Dakota Warehouse, 1313 E Saint Patrick St, Rapid City, SD 57701. The subcontractor is responsible for all quality control activities to ensure compliance with subcontract documents.

Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) / Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) - US 1
1 Introduction
Under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG), is leading the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) Project to enable a world-class program in neutrino physics. Specifically, the LBNF Project (https://lbnf-dune.fnal.gov) provides the infrastructure for the Deep
Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), which will consist of two large liquid argon-based neutrino detectors located nearly a mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, SD. See Figure 1, LBNF/DUNE-US Schematic
The Far Detector & Cryogenics (FDC) subproject of LBNF/DUNE-US installs the cryostats, detectors, cryogenics and supporting infrastructure at the SURF laboratory.

2 Equipment Description
The roof framing of the cryostat requires access for personnel and equipment, and such an adequate walking surface is required. Bar grating has been selected as the best option for the requirements of the project.
3 Technical Requirements
The vendor shall provide all bar grating and associated clips/hardware that meets the following requirements:
