About this file

This document is a shipping expectations and guidelines instruction set for vendors delivering cargo to the Dakota Warehouse operated by Crowley Logistics in Rapid City, South Dakota. Vendors must email the FDC Logistics Team at sdshipments@fnal.gov before shipping and call 605-389-3344 to schedule an appointment. The warehouse operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time and is located at 1313 E Saint Patrick Street, Rapid City, SD 57701.

The warehouse has specific handling and dimensional constraints that determine appropriate trailer selection. Shipments arriving without proper notification, Bill of Lading documentation, or exceeding warehouse capabilities will be returned to the vendor. The facility lacks overhead lift equipment such as cranes or gantries, and any shipment requiring special handling beyond forklift or pallet jack must receive FDC Logistics Team approval at least two weeks prior to shipment. The warehouse contains no ground-level dock doors. For items over 8 feet in length or exceeding 8,000 pounds, vendors must use appropriate trailer types (dry vans, containers, or specialized equipment) and obtain pre-approval when necessary. All freight must be properly secured and palletized or crated when applicable. The warehouse maintains dock door openings at the South Dock (nine doors at 92 inches wide by 99-103 inches high) and West Dock (eight doors at 82 inches wide by 94 inches high). Material handling equipment includes standup and riding forklifts with 42-inch forks (up to 8,000 lbs capacity), long-reach forklifts with 84-inch forks (8,000 lbs capacity), and an outside forklift with 46-inch forks (17,500 lbs capacity). Damaged shipments will be rejected, and shippers bear responsibility for proper cargo securement and equipment selection during transit.
