Opening Markets, Generating Exports U.S. Trade and Development Agency
Our mission USTDA helps companies create U.S. jobs through the export of U.S. goods and services for priority development projects in emerging economies
USTDA links U.S. businesses to global infrastructure opportunities.
Presenter Presentation Notes And we’re pretty good at it. I’m proud to say that every $1 USTDA has invested in its programs has yielded $74 in U.S.-manufactured goods and services.
USTDA links U.S. companies to global infrastructure opportunities by providing:
Access ✔ Opportunity ✔ Support ✔
USTDA works exclusively in emerging markets
Presenter
First, USTDA works exclusively in emerging markets. As a foreign assistance agency, our mission is to advance economic growth in emerging markets and promote U.S. exports to those markets. And considering the fact that low to middle-income countries are forecast to grow at 3-4 times the rate of industrialized countries, we’re working exactly where U.S. companies need to be.
USTDA focuses on infrastructure sectors
Presenter Presentation Notes Secondly, USTDA focuses exclusively on infrastructure projects in order to help its partner countries achieve their economic development goals. By supporting the modernization and expansion of the transportation, energy and telecommunications sectors in high-growth emerging markets, USTDA helps these countries develop the foundation necessary to become strong, viable trading partners for U.S. firms. Now, bearing these two things in mind, let me explain how USTDA successfully promotes U.S. exports.
Access to foreign buyers
Reverse trade missions USTDA brings foreign project sponsors to the United States pending upcoming procurements to observe the design, manufacture, and operation of U.S. products and services.
Brazil data center technologies Introduced 12 Brazilian state government delegates to U.S. capabilities resulting in $65.7 million in U.S. exports
Included visits to Las Vegas; Silicon Valley; Dallas;
and Washington, D.C.
Presenter
Be sure to highlight whether a technical subcontractor was hired.
In 2012, USTDA approved $254,889 in funding for a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) that brought twelve Brazilian public and private sector delegates to the United States to learn about data center technologies and best practices. The visit was designed to build upon recent information and communications technology (ICT) studies funded by USTDA in Brazil and the mutual priority placed on ICT sector collaboration during an Apri1 2012 U.S.–Brazil bilateral meeting in Washington, D.C. The RTM would help generate U.S. export opportunities in equipment, software, and consulting services in the areas of e-government and telecommunications. The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) oversaw the visit which, occurred December 2–13, 2012. As of the 2014-2015 evaluation, approximately $65.7 million in U.S. exports have been identified as having been supported by this RTM and development benefits as related to Infrastructure Development and Efficiency Gains have been realized.
Conferences and workshops USTDA organizes sector or region-specific events to connect U.S. firms with foreign buyers.
They are designed to highlight upcoming projects overseas, as well as showcase U.S. goods and services.
Turkey geothermal workshop Following a Reverse Trade Mission USTDA continued to support relationships between Turkish geothermal power developers and U.S. companies through a workshop that took place in Turkey with nearly 100 participants.
Presenter Presentation Notes Be sure to highlight whether a technical subcontractor was hired.
In 2014, USTDA approved funding for a Turkish Geothermal Workshop to bring together Turkish geothermal developers with the U.S. companies that can provide geothermal power development engineering and other services, as well as geothermal power plant equipment. This workshop was suggested by Turkish participants in a 2013 USTDA Geothermal RTM that visited the Geothermal Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, toured geothermal power plant sites in Nevada and California and met with U.S. companies active in providing geothermal power plant solutions, including geothermal resource assessment, engineering and plant design, drilling and other services.
The Webster Group organized and carried out the Workshop which involved attendance of 22 U.S. company representatives and 75 Turkish company and government representatives. The workshop took place October 21-22, 2014 in Ankara, Turkey. Ankara, the capital of Turkey, was selected due to the central location relative to geothermally active areas and the proximity to Turkish government officials.
Prior to the Workshop, the Webster Group sent a technical team to Turkey to meet with all of the major private sector developers as well as the Turkish Government. As a result of this visit, the Webster Group prepared a “Turkey Geothermal Resource Guide” with background on the sector, profiles on many of the major developers, as well as the projects underway.
Topics covered during the workshop included panels on institutional framework, a case study on the Germencik Geothermal Plant built based on a USTDA feasibility study, U.S. Geothermal Sector best practices and lessons learned, Turkish geothermal project opportunities, managing risk in early stage development, geothermal technologies, and financing of geothermal projects, as well as time set aside for one-on-one meeting opportunities. As a result of this workshop, USTDA is considering funding for additional feasibility study projects and expects U.S. exports of geothermal sector services.
