DIVISION 01 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

DIVISION 1 SHORT FORM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

ITEM 1. Description of Work

This project aims to upgrade and optimize the HVAC control system at the Mammoth Cave National

Park Visitor Center, while also enhancing system efficiency, improving climate control performance, and ensuring that park personnel are fully trained in operating the upgraded system. The work includes a comprehensive inspection, software and hardware upgrades, system balancing, and operator training to maintain the long-term functionality of the HVAC system.

Scope of Work Breakdown

1.1 Network System Upgrade (Qty: 1, TAG: NET)

The contractor shall upgrade the existing JACE 8000 controller to the latest version of Tridium

Niagara, the building automation software that manages the HVAC control system. This upgrade will enhance system performance, improve user interface functionality, and provide better system monitoring and automation capabilities.

• Software Upgrade & Compatibility Verification: The contractor shall install the latest version of

Tridium Niagara, ensuring full compatibility with the existing system hardware.

• Database Verification & Correction: Upon upgrading, the contractor shall verify that all data points, control logic, and setpoints remain intact and operational. Any corrupted or missing data points must be corrected.

• Graphical Interface Enhancements: The contractor shall implement customer-requested graphical modifications, including customized user dashboards, equipment status displays, and system performance analytics.

This upgrade will provide more efficient system automation, enhanced troubleshooting capabilities, and improved energy management for the HVAC system.

1.2 Variable Air Volume (VAV) System Balancing (Qty: 15, TAG: VAV)

The HVAC system contains 15 Variable Air Volume (VAV) units, which regulate airflow to different zones within the visitor center. To improve efficiency and comfort levels, the contractor shall inspect and optimize the operation of each VAV unit, ensuring proper air distribution throughout the facility.

• Inspection of Control Boxes: Each VAV control box shall be thoroughly inspected for mechanical or electrical issues, loose connections, or failed components.

3 | P a g e

• Airflow Balancing: The contractor shall test and adjust airflow rates for each VAV unit to maximize system efficiency. This will ensure that all areas of the visitor center receive consistent and appropriate airflow based on occupancy and environmental conditions.

Proper balancing of the VAV system will help reduce energy consumption, enhance comfort levels, and extend the life of HVAC components.

1.3 HVAC System Assessment Report (Qty: 1, REPORT)

Following the network system upgrade and Variable Air Volume (VAV) system inspections, the contractor shall compile the findings into a comprehensive HVAC System Assessment Report. This report will document the current condition of the HVAC controls, outline any identified deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions for long-term system efficiency.

Report Requirements

The contractor shall prepare a detailed report that includes, but is not limited to, the following elements:

1.3.1 Executive Summary

• A brief overview of the inspection results and overall condition of the HVAC system.

• Identification of major deficiencies and recommended corrective actions.

• Summary of airflow balancing adjustments performed on the VAV system.

1.3.2 Control System Analysis

• Verification of Tridium Niagara software functionality post-upgrade.

• Status check on all data points, control sequences, and automation logic.

• Summary of any database corrections or graphical changes made during the upgrade.

• Identification of any faulty controllers, end devices, or communication failures.

1.3.3 VAV System Inspection Results

• Documentation of control box inspections, including any mechanical or electrical issues found.

• Airflow balancing before and after adjustment readings for each VAV unit.

• Identification of any VAV dampers, actuators, or sensors that may require replacement.

1.3.4 Deficiency List & Recommended Actions

• A prioritized list of any deficiencies identified during the system inspection.

• Recommendations for necessary repairs, component replacements, or future system upgrades.

• Estimated impact on system performance if corrective actions are not taken.

1.3.5 Supporting Documentation
