XRF Lead Report_WH-16_ p.1

Defense Logistics Agency - San Joaquin Tracy, California

XRF Lead Evaluation

Date: 14 June 2017 Subject: Field Analysis for Suspect Lead Paint Bulk Sample Collected from the DLASJ Tracy, Warehouse 16

Evaluation

On 14 June 2017, field testing for the presence of Lead was performed on the primary structural coatings (paints) identified on the surfaces of the building materials at the DLASJ, Tracy, Warehouse 16. Robert Miller, Certified Industrial Hygienist, performed the field sample analysis utilizing a handheld Innov-X Systems, Alpha Series, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer. Prior to this sampling event the calibration of the XRF instrument was verified by performing an analysis of a National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), Reference Material. The field testing data for Warehouse 16 is provided in Table 1 of this report.

Discussion

The field testing of the coatings associated with the DLASJ Tracy, Warehouse 16, did identify Lead concentrations that are described in Table 1 of this report. The Federal OSHA 16 CFR

1926.62 and 16 CFR 1910.1025 Standards and California OSHA 8CCR 1532.1, and Title 17 CCR Standards regulate exposures to materials with any detectable amount of Lead.

Recommendations

• Any activity that may include the disturbance of Lead-containing materials must be performed within the regulations set forth in Federal OSHA 16 CFR 1926.62, 16 CFR

1910.1025 and California OSHA 8CCR 1532.1, and Title 17 CCR Standards.

• Disposal of any building materials that are coated with Lead-containing paint must be disposed of per the requirements of the DS-FJ Installation Support Environmental Office.

Evaluation

On 06 July 2017, field testing for the presence of Lead was performed on the primary structural coatings (paints) identified on the surfaces of the building materials at the DLASJ, Tracy, Warehouse 22. Robert Miller, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and Lonny Jones, Industrial Hygiene Technician, performed the field sample analysis utilizing a handheld Innov-X Systems, Alpha Series, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer. Prior to this sampling event the calibration of the XRF instrument was verified by performing an analysis of a National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), Reference Material. The field testing data for Warehouse 22 is provided in Table 1 of this report.
