Amendment 0005
Amendment 0005 is hereby incorporated into solicitation SP3300-11-B-5003 and shall become part of any resulting contract.
Amendment 0005 is being issued to provide answers to vendor questions and clarify the bid opening date.
Questions/Answers
Question 1: Does the existing lighting protection system have a current Master Label?
Answer 1: There is not a current up to date Master Label on the existing lightning protection system.
Question 2: What certification is required for the modified lighting protection system?
Answer 2: The modified lightning protection system installation shall be performed by a UL Listed installer and shall conform to the requirements of NFPA 780, UL 96, UL 96A and NFPA 70(NEC). UL inspection for Master Label is not required.
Question 3: The spec calls out a vapor barrier to be placed in hot asphalt…would it be acceptable to use Carlisle’s Self-Adhering Vapor Barrier (which is asphalt based)? It can be placed directly over pre-primed gypsum sheathing such as Dens Deck Prime – this would mean the detail for the vapor barrier placement (or any vapor barrier) over a ribbed metal deck must be over some form of gypsum recovery board. (By using a Self-Adhered vapor barrier we can eliminate having a hot kettle on site – and self-adhered vapor barriers are widely preferred in lieu of hot).
Answer 3: Yes.
Question 4: Can you verify the acceptable fastener type for the Deck replacement where old units are being removed and holes in the deck are to be covered, or must the new deck pieces be welded?
Answer 4: Weld all around per AISC Chapter J, Table J2.4.
Question 5: Amendment 2 – Questions and Answers 6 , 7 & 8 imply that all the existing bays have two supply and exhaust units (Answer 6-8) . Bay 1 thru 4 has two supply and exhaust units, Bays 5 – 7 do not. Installing the new system simultaneously will allow one system to remain operational in Bays 1 – 4, but Bay 5 – 7 will require removing one system to install the new.
5A: Can orientation of the new MAUs and HRU in Bays 5 – 7 be changed to the adjacent walls to maintain the existing in operation in Bays 5-7?
Answer 5A: This can be done if you want to take this approach, however, it would be acceptable to leave either the supply system OR the return system in tact while removing the other system. This would leave the room either negative or positive depending on which system is removed but the required number of air changes would still be accomplished. This would assume that the door to this bay is always open - which it is.
5B: If the bays will be empty during construction is ventilation a requirement in Bays 5 -7?
Answer 5B: This bay will not be completely empty during construction. Equipment and stock within each bay will be moved as necessary to allow for installation of the system. The only time that the entire bay will be cleared is when new insulation is added to the ceiling at the completion of construction.
5C: Will the Annex require ventilation during the change over?
Answer 5C: Yes, ventilation will be required during construction as this area will continue to be active while under construction.
Question 6: Sequence of operation 3.4.3..a.2.a makes reference to a Solarwall Damper, but no dampers are shown in the duct work for this on the other Solarwall project recently bid, there was a BYPASS damper associated with the Solarwall intake, .. I do not see anything like that...
Answer 6: The AHU is configured with two outside air dampers. The first damper is connected to the outside. Air which passes through this damper goes through a preheat coil (this is the energy recovery coil). The second damper is connected to the supply from the solar wall. Air from the solar wall enters the AHU after the preheat coil (this is the energy recovery coil).
Outside air mixes with air from the solar wall and then passes through the heating coil before being admitted into the space. Regardless of whether this is shown on the drawings or not, the units will be supplied in this manner.
Question 7: Sequence of operation 3.4.3..a.2. also makes reference to controlling unit heaters in sequence with the MUA based on space temperature, but unit heaters are again mentioned in
3.4.4.2 having their own controller and a separate sequence of operation. There are no distinctions between unit heaters that are sequenced with the MUA's and those to be controlled by local thermostats.
Answer 7: Unit heaters are to be provided with their own controls.
Question 8: The HRU units are not mentioned clearly in the sequence of operation... I am assuming that the HRU units are the "building exhaust " referenced in the MUA sequence.
Answer 8: Yes, this is correct.
Question 9: The sequence for the UH calls for hot water valves... but the piping details on M505 clearly show no control valves.
Answer 9: Control valves are not required but isolation valves for these coils are to be provided.
Question 10: There is no sequence for EUH, do these need to be DDC?
Answer 10: No, the EUHs are not to be added to the DDC.
Question 11: No sequence for EXF, example fans numbered 1-9.
Answer 11: Bathroom exhaust fans are to be interlocked with the BMS to operate during the Occupied Mode. All other fans are to operate through the BMS using space temperature sensors.
Bid Opening Date/Time Clarification: The bid opening date is September 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM not 12:00 PM as stated in Amendment 0004.
All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
