Means and methods for access to the roof, and demolition shall be with care to ensure no impact to electrical transformers and other equipment that are near the roof work area.

3. Refer to attached Figures 1-14 that show the existing conditions, layout and details of required work on the roof.

Roof Demolition

1. Demolish and remove the entire existing roof system including the membrane, cover boards, insulation, mechanical fasteners, pressure treated nailers, flashing, sealants, and blocking down to the underlying concrete roof slab. Dismantle and protect the existing stainless-steel chimney and anchorage for reuse. Cut flush or remove any objects, such as old mechanical fasteners, that may puncture the new roofing system. Ensure surfaces are rigid, dry, smooth, free from cracks, holes and sharp edges prior to application of the new roof system. Seal any observed cracks or penetrations through the existing concrete deck in accordance with manufactures recommendations for the new roof membrane. Notify the TPOC immediately if any discrepancies are discovered that will affect demolition or new work. During all phases of work, the means and methods shall prevent any construction debris from falling into the river or impacting the adjacent electrical equipment.

Brick Demolition to replace the original through wall flashing

1. Perform demolition of at least five rows of brick to remove an original through wall flashing. Replace the flashing to limits one foot past the intersection with the brick wall on both sides of the control room roof. The original flashing will be visible after demolition of the roof system.

Only install what can be covered by a nal membrane system within the same day. Mechanically secure cover boards through insulation with specified fasteners and insulation plates into the concrete decking. Space fasteners as required to provide the wind uplift resistance specified and in accordance with manufacturer's installation requirements.

5. Furnish and install 90 mil, black, reinforced EPDM rubber roofing membrane fully adhered to the cover board. Layout membrane and side lap adjoining sheets in accordance with membrane manufacturer's printed installation instructions. All seams will overlap and be heat welded to form a waterproof seam. Install flashing and flashing accessories as the roof membrane is installed. Apply flashing to cleaned surfaces and as recommended by the roof membrane manufacturer. Remove dusting agents and dirt from membrane and substrate areas where bonding adhesives are to be applied.

Apply specified adhesive evenly and continuously to substrate [and underside of sheets] at rates recommended by the roof membrane manufacturer.

Roll each sheet into adhesive slowly and evenly to avoid wrinkles; broom or roll the membrane to remove air pockets and fish mouths and to ensure full, continuous bonding of sheet to substrate. Check all seams and ensure full lap seal applied to all adhesive formed seams and all cut edges of reinforced membrane materials. All seams and lap splices reinforced with seam tape in accordance with membrane manufacturer's printed instructions. Apply minimum 9-inch-long strip of membrane-backed flashing tape over T-intersections of roof membrane. Roll tape to ensure full adhesion and seal over T-joint.
