About this file
The document is a Notice of Proposed Sole Source Purchase from the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC), detailing their intent to purchase a specialized drone system from Drone Amplified. The procurement involves a Freefly Alta X drone equipped with an IGNIS aerial ignition package, with a total cost of $90,315.96, which includes the drone, pilot kit, integration camera, chargers, batteries, spare parts, and accessories. The MFC seeks to use this drone for prescribed fire burning, controlled burns, and aerial ignition for land management and wildfire suppression, with responses to the sole source certification request accepted until November 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM Central Time.
The purchase is justified by the unique capabilities of the drone system, which enhances firefighter safety by eliminating the need for personnel to ignite fires on foot in hazardous terrain. Drone Amplified is identified as the only company in the United States supplying this specific drone package, meeting operational requirements under Section 31-7-67 of the Mississippi Code. The MFC currently operates three such drone packages and has experienced reduced risk compared to traditional helicopter-based aerial ignition methods. If no alternative vendors are found during the review process, the MFC will appeal to the Public Procurement Review Board for final purchase approval.

MISSISSIPPI FORESTRY COMMISSION
Notice of Proposed Sole Source Purchase
RFx # 3150006540
The Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) anticipates purchasing the item listed below as a sole source purchase. Anyone objecting to this purchase as a sole source shall follow the procedures outlined below.
Commodity to be purchased (manufacturer, model, description):
Drone Amplified, Freefly Alta X drone equipped with the IGNIS aerial ignition package
The need to be fulfilled by this item and why it is the only one that can meet the specific needs of the agency:
The Mississippi Forestry Commission utilizes drones in prescribed fire burning, controlled burns, and aerial ignition for land management and wildfire suppression. The IGNIS-equipped Alta X drone enables safe and precise aerial ignition by deploying ignition spheres from above. This technology enhances efficiency, reduces operational costs, and significantly improves firefighter safety. Historically, helicopters have been used for aerial ignitions, but they present high costs and considerable safety risks. Helicopters remain one of the leading causes of fatalities in wild land fire operations. The drone system provides a safer alternative while maintaining effectiveness. The Mississippi Forestry Commission currently operates three of these drone packages and has seen reduced risk by eliminating the need for personnel to ignite fires on foot in hazardous terrain. For these reasons, the Commission requests approval to proceed with this sole-source procurement to ensure continued safe and effective fire management operations.
Name of company/individual selling the item and why that source is the only possible source that can provide the required item:
Drone Amplified is the only company in the United States that supplies the Freefly Alta X drone equipped with the IGNIS aerial ignition package. They meet the operational requirements in accordance with Section 31-7-67, Mississippi Code of 1972.
Why the amount to be expended for the commodity is reasonable:
The total procurement cost is $90,315.96. This price includes the Alta X with Pilot Pro Kit, packed IGNIS, integration camera Vio G1 & carrying case, aerial ignition, double charger kit, batteries & case, spare propellers, spare parts kit and spark care package.
Efforts that the agency went through to obtain the best possible price for the commodity:
The department researched and found that Drone Amplified is the only USA vendor that supplies this drone. They reached out and discussed with them for the quote as to what is needed.
