PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TfH, implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc.
(JSI) and jointly funded by USAID and Chevron, provides services for Youth Centers to encourage the prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STI), TB, and promote a healthy lifestyle for youth, including disabled youth and members of key populations. Its activities are conducted in collaboration with the National Red Crescent Society, NGO Overcoming, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and United Nations Populations Fund. TfH continues to expand a network of drop-in centers for injection drug users which provide counseling services, HIV and TB prevention education, and referrals for medical services. About 30,000 HIV/AIDS tests are performed by the country annually, but the reported incidence rate is zero. Turkmenistan has 30,000 officially registered drug addicts. Knowledge among the general population regarding HIV transmission and prevention is insufficient, and young people have few opportunities to meet and learn outside of school.
