1 Project Description

This is the National Park Service Statement of Work for the following task(s):

1.1 Project Title

Interior IT Wiring project

1.2 Purpose

This project will upgrade the existing IT infrastructure of the following buildings:

Main Administration, the Old Inn, the Conifer Classroom, and the Education Lab.

This project will include network switches, UPS battery backup/surge protectors, patch panels, termination block jacks, all connecting cable and cable raceway, enclosures, and shelves, labeling and all documentation and testing. Also included is the interconnection of all locations.

This project will remove the existing wiring, where needed, and install newer Cat6 cables to support higher data rates and clean cabling. It will also provide for the mining of old wiring and telephone company blocks and make room for the upgrade of the telecom closet. A rework of the existing telephone company premises wiring block is also included.

The Interior IT wiring project will work in connection with other ongoing and completed projects to bring the main Muir Woods National Monument buildings to a network level that supports the higher speeds which will be available. It will eliminate redundant, confusing, and congested cabling and blocks, many of which have been in place since the 1980s.

1.3 Project Background

The Muir Woods National Monument internal wiring is typical of wiring that was used in the 1980s and 1990s. The MDF (Main Distribution Frame) shares space in a small closet that measures about eight foot by six foot. The current phone system is an Eon Millenium DBCS-8 telephone switch. The associated wiring, mostly Cat3 and

Cat1, was used for POTS, plain old telephone service and early LAN cabling. This closet functions as a main distribution point for all telecom services to the Muir

Woods area. Any additional cabling has been done ad hoc, or as needed to reach the workstations around the offices. This has led to wiring running across the floor, around doorframes, and generally in a haphazard “anything for service” fashion.

The main admin building has a combination of the newest wiring for data (Cat5) and oldest wiring for the telecom blocks and phones. This wiring is substandard and does not meet the needs of the staff to properly perform their duties.

It is hoped that at the time this project begins the new telecom services will be installed which will allow for a conversion of the phone system to Teams Calling

Plan. If this service has not been upgraded, it will be necessary to preserve the integrity of the current Eon Millenium PBX service.

The Old Inn, now the main workplace of Law Enforcement and Maintenance personnel, also uses old Cat1 for phones, all POTS lines, and long jumper cables run from a centrally placed Cisco switch for network. The network service for this building comes from a HughesNet dish mounted on the roof.

The Conifer Classroom has no existing cabling or IT infrastructure.

All sites have had fiber run as part of an earlier project.

1.3.1 Organization and Mission

The National Park Service, a bureau of the Department of the Interior, is entrusted with administering approximately 84,000,000 acres of land throughout nearly 400 national park units in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S.

Virgin Islands, and Guam. The mission of the National Park Service is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.

This is accomplished through a deeply committed workforce of approximately

27,000 employees (both permanent and temporary) and partnerships with nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, and private industries.

1.4 Scope

Rework the telecom frame room MDF (Main Distribution Frame), consolidate the copper wire on a smaller number of new 110 blocks. Rewire active lines and analog numbers to their original destinations.

Mine (remove) current Cat5 cable and end blocks at the Administration building and install new Cat6 cable in existing raceway. Install new Cat6 cabling within new and existing raceway to each workstation location. Raceway and cabling will be run ceiling down, network blocks for user connection will be located at a height of 36 inches from the floor to eliminate the wear and tear of being floor mounted.

Install a new network enclosure at the Administration building (42U). A smaller shelf will be used at the Old Inn and the Conifer classroom (10U). These enclosures/shelves will be located at predetermined locations with a proximity to both the fiber patch panels and the workstation areas. The Admin Building will require additional runs using new raceway. All other locations will require new raceway. At the Admin building there is some existing raceway that needs additional runs and new raceway will be used at each of the other locations.

Run new raceway from the new patch panels at each location throughout the work areas to support the new workstation locations. No raceways will be required in the

Visitor Center. Penetrate through walls where necessary, use sleeve kits. This conduit will run along the edge of ceilings and down to each workstation to better protect its integrity and longevity.

Power must be run to every location for switch and UPS power. This will be accomplished by tapping into an existing receptacle circuit and running power to the required location. Wiring must be run through rigid metal conduit. Conduit may be surface mounted. Receptacle boxes may be surface mounted. Locations and existing circuit must be approved by the COR on site.

Project Tasks cover all additional equipment in detail. Drawings included.

1.5 Project Tasks

Note: All materials used are listed separately on the attached Bill of Materials

(BOM), P (parts) and G (Government provided Equipment). This is for reference only. Parts (P) noted are the basis-of-design. Substitution of the materials on the P

(parts) section is allowed. Any substitution must meet the salient characteristics of the basis-of-design product. All parts must be submitted to the COR for approval.

Note: Not included in the project tasks is instructions for electrical outlets. This is included in section 1.4.
