24. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (include scope size, and cost)
Ardaman has held a continuing contract with the City since 2018 to provide both construction materials testing and inspection and geotechnical services for City of St. Petersburg infrastructure. We were contacted to evaluate a depression that had developed over the past several years and was believed to be related to a broken utility in the area. Very loose soils were found from 5 to 8 and 11.5 to 18 feet (see excerpt from CPT at left), leading to a conclusion that soil migration into the wastewater collection system was causing the street settlement. These loose zones were not present in the Cone Penetration Test (CPT) that was performed about 50 feet south of the depressed area. Research by Ardaman indicated the buried utility at this site was about 100 years old and appears to have already failed to the degree that significant soil intrusion into the buried utility is already occurring. Ardaman provided recommendations for remediation. These recommendations were designed to stabilize the soil without damaging the required functionality of the existing in service domestic wastewater collection system.
Approximated Fees: $5,143

24. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (include scope size, and cost)
The Central Basin Marina South Bulkhead Wall, located in St. Petersburg, Florida, had experienced apparent lateral displacement or rotation toward the water. Additionally, several cracks and depressions have been observed in the soil behind the wall. The existing structure is an old stone gravity wall, with a metal sheet pile toe wall added at a later date to facilitate dredging operations along the adjacent boat slips. Several areas of soil subsidence and/or cracking in the soil were observed behind the wall.
Ardaman performed a geotechnical study which included conducting eight soil borings 30 to 75 feet deep. In addition, geotechnical engineering parameters were developed based upon the results of the soil borings. Soil boring and geotechnical engineering parameters were included in the geotechnical engineering report submitted to assist with the design of the anticipated wall improvements.
