Gender Action Plan Sample
ABC Construction Company
Interventions:
In order to promote gender equality, ABC Construction (ABC) proposes the following interventions:
(1) Commit to a gender-sensitive workplace culture under the LCP Program. ABC will strive to promote gender equality both within its offices and on construction sites. Specifically, ABC commits to the following:
a. Promote the equitable, merit-based hiring of women in technical, managerial and administrative positions.
b. Hold periodic trainings on gender equality and sexual harassment.
c. Improve construction site and safety guidelines to better accommodate women, such as providing bathrooms for women at project sites or providing protective gear that properly fits female employees.
d. Create overall gender awareness within ABC, and discuss gender equality issues with all employees.
(2) Prior to the commencement of any construction activity, an ABC Public Relations representative (PR Rep) will visit all communities potentially affected by the proposed construction activities. The PR Rep will hold meetings with the community during their visit, including at least one meeting specifically with women, in order to discuss the duration, scope, extent, and potential effects of upcoming construction activities.
a. During these pre-construction meetings, the PR Rep will explain the upcoming construction activities to the community, allowing local residents a chance to ask questions and better understand how they can best avoid any potentially negative effects of the construction process on their daily lives.
(3) Hire five interns, seeking to promote female participation throughout the recruitment, application and hiring process. Interns will be hired on a part-time basis, for a duration of three to twelve months within technical positions (engineering, surveying, quality control, drafting, etc.)
Reporting:
ABC will report on progress toward its Gender Action Plan within each monthly Task Order report to USAID.
