1.1 SYSTEM PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS

Figure 1: AN/ZPY-57(V)1

(U) AN/ZPY-57(V)1 is used on the AC-57U aircraft for Air-to-Ground fire control. It provides search, acquisition, and tracking capabilities for aiming the 40mm cannon and 105mm howitzer rounds.

(U) The AN/ZPY-57(V1) is an X-band multimode fire control radar adapted from the AN/APG-453. The ZPY-57 employs frequency agility covering 4 channels. Eight different crystals can be installed at the factory.

(U) The antenna is a 36 inch slotted array mounted in the nose of the aircraft under a radome. All units are line replaceable.

(U) The AN/ZPY-57(V)1 has several modes of operation: Search, Acquisition, and Target Track.

(U) System parameters are shown in Tables below

Figure 2: AN/ZPY-57(V)1 Main Antenna

(U) The AN/ZPY-57(V)1 Main antenna is a 3-foot diameter planar array that provides X-band RF radiation and reception capabilities for the AN/ZPY-57(V)1 radar system.

(U) The AN/ZPY-57(V)1 Main antenna is a mechanically steered circular array that is a modified AS1234 antenna used for the APG-453 radar. The modified design is used by the AN/ZPY-57(V)1 radar installed aboard the AC-57U aircraft.

(U) The antenna planar array assembly is a 3 ft (0.9m) diameter standing-wave array of shunt slots fed by rectangular waveguides. The array is constructed of 4 separate sections that comprise its quadrants.

Each quadrant of the array is divided into 20 sub-arrays or modules, the majority of which contain 16 radiating slots (4x4 slots). Each sub-array module is fed individually by a corporate feed network.

(U) This radar uses a 13 bit barker code with nominal ranges of 5, 50, and 150 nm

(U) Each range scale uses a different 13-bit barker code to support the following range bin (RB) sizes

Nominal Range (nmi) Range Bin (m) 5 72 50 597 150 2391

(U) Acquisition pulse is dependent on slant range (if slant range <9230 m, then use 1:1 pulse compression) (if slant range >9230 m, then use a 13:1 compression ratio, 13-bit barker coded structured pulse. In all cases, range bin size is 62.1 meters.

FA7037-23-R-0002

(U) Track mode has an operator selectable compression ratio of 1:1, 13:1, or 169:1 at a range bin size of

5.1 meters.

Search Scan

(U) Operator can select a search sector with either a 25, 50, or 100 deg scan width.

(U) The 25 deg scan sector has a total duration of 0.526 seconds.

(U) The 50 deg scan sector has a total duration of 1.052 seconds.

(U) The 100 deg scan sector has a total duration of 2.104 seconds.

Acquisition Scan

(U) Operator can select between a 1, 2, or 4 bar scans.
