About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) responses document for a federal contract opportunity (W50S6T26QA035) concerning the procurement of window awnings with installation services, current as of September 8, 2026.

The document addresses eight key questions regarding awning design and installation specifications. The Government requires awnings with a minimum 4-foot projection from the wall/window surface and a 2-3 foot overhang drop below the top of the window. The awning design shall be generally flat with an aluminum or sheet metal construction, explicitly rejecting corrugated galvanized materials. Open-sided designs are acceptable, though the roof must be covered. All awnings must be painted with a commercial exterior grade finish in a color to be determined post-award, with smooth surfaces free from blemishes. The frame and awning structure must be wind load resistant to 100 mph or better, though no specific metal gauge or thickness requirements are mandated. Attachment and anchoring must be securely affixed to the building exterior with appropriate sealing to prevent water intrusion and structural degradation, with specific details to be determined by the contractor based on field verification of existing masonry or siding conditions. Material submittals, including shop drawings, product data, and color samples, are required for Government approval prior to fabrication and installation.

RFI responses for Project: Window Awnings with Installation

W50S6T26QA035

Current as of: 8 September 2026

QUESTION ANSWER

1. Awning Design: Does the Government have a required awning profile/design, or may the contractor propose a prefabricated metal canopy design that meets the performance requirements of the PWS?

Design shall meet the following; projection shall extend to a minimum of 4 ft from the window/wall surface. The awning overhang shall drop a minimum of 2-3 ft below the top of the window.

2. Projec on/Depth: What is the required projec on of the awnings from the exterior wall? The PWS provides window widths and heights but does not specify awning projec on/depth.

4 ft projection from wall.

3. Sides and Front: Is the Government requiring the two sides and/or front fascia of each awning to be covered with sheet metal, or may the awnings have an open-sided design with a sheet-metal roof supported by a metal frame and braces?

The side may be open.

4. Material: The PWS specifies “aluminum or other sheet metal.” Is corrugated galvanized sheet metal with a structural steel frame acceptable?

No. The rounding does not meet government intent. Awning shall be generally flat, similar to the roof design and painted (color to be determined after award)

5. Finish/Color: Does the Government require a specific color, paint system, powder coa ng, anodized finish, or other exterior finish? If not, is the contractor's standard exterior corrosion-resistant finish acceptable?

Painted surface required (color to be determined after award). Painting shall be commercial exterior grade, smooth, and free from blemishes.

6. Metal Gauge: Is there a minimum required sheet-metal gauge/thickness or structural framing specifica on?

Frame and awning must be wind load resistant to 100 mph or better.

7. A achment: Does the Government require specific a achment/anchoring details, or should the contractor determine the appropriate anchoring system based on field verifica on of the exis ng masonry/siding?

Ensure all awning mounts are securely anchored to the building exterior and appropriately sealed to prevent water intrusion or structural degradation.

8. Design Approval: Will the Government require a shop drawing, product data, color sample, or awning design submi al for approval before fabrica on?

Yes. Material submittals required before installation.
