About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for an RFI related to UPS replacement and revitalization services at the Bedford VA Medical Center. The document addresses 15 vendor inquiries regarding project scope, logistics, and technical requirements for replacing and maintaining Uninterruptible Power Supply systems across two buildings. Key responses clarify that contractors are responsible for all electrical work; equivalent brands to APC are not acceptable; Building 3 UPS work constitutes a revitalization scope requiring equivalent runtime to existing equipment, while Building 61 requires replacement units with equivalent or higher runtime; and loading docks are available at Buildings 3 and 62 (adjacent to Building 61), with units located on the first floor of both buildings. The VA confirms no obstructions are known between loading docks and UPS rooms, though contractors must verify, and that replacement part numbers are available in the service report.

The document further specifies that IT will escort contractors to server rooms and be present during all component and unit replacements. Working hours are designated as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with weekend work limited to server outage situations. Equipment staging depends on space requirements at each building. The VA confirms no increase in capacity is required for new equipment, which will connect to existing feeds. Access procedures, including sign-in/out requirements, are pending VA IT confirmation. Currently, no submittal or shop drawings exist for existing equipment, though the Bedford VAMC is reviewing archived drawings for potential availability.
