About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) document issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Facility Planning, Construction and Management (FPCM) division for the Correctional Construction Mentorship Program (CCM) project at Salinas Valley State Prison (SQRC). The RFI, numbered 028, addresses architectural and engineering questions generated during a vendor walk-through conducted on February 17, 2026, regarding the Upper Yard Renovation Phase 2 project (CCM Project #I-001125, A/E Project #24-026). The RFI was submitted on March 6, 2026, with a response deadline of March 13, 2026, and was answered by Shan Li, Senior Architect on March 17, 2026. The document pertains to roof panel construction specifications and related drainage infrastructure for the Upper Yard Shed Structure, specifically addressing concerns regarding structural support capacity and downspout sizing compatibility with existing storm drain systems.

The RFI identifies two primary technical issues requiring clarification: structural adequacy of the roof panel support system to accommodate an 18-inch overhang at the end trusses (grid lines 1 and 16) with the addition of gutter and downspout components, and compatibility between the proposed 14-gauge stainless steel downspout and the existing 4-inch storm drainpipe. The CCM's proposed resolution involves installation of a new 3-3/4-inch round galvanized steel downspout to connect with the existing infrastructure. The RFI response includes revised gutter detail drawings (RFI-028 Response_Revised Gutter Detail 01 and 02) with specific construction specifications, including gutter wedge spacing at 30 inches on center, 1.5-inch pop rivets, four #10 screws, 20-gauge galvanized steel shaped plates, and metal spacer brackets placed between support components. No additional set-asides, pricing information, or contract award details are contained within this RFI document.

Response To RFI – Architecture and Engineering Section

Questions generated from the Upper Yard Shed Roof Panel Vendor Walk on 2/17/26.

Plan Sheet S2.2 and A2.2 display the Upper Yard Shed Structure Roof Panels with an overhang of 18” at the perimeter of the Upper

Yard Shed Structure. Vendor is concerned that the support displayed on plan sheet A2.2 Detail 4 will not be able to support the weight of the roofing panel, gutter, and down spout. Vendor also stated that additional support will be needed to achieve the 18” overhang at the end truss displayed on lines 1 and 16 detail 3 plan sheet A2.2. Please advise.

The project plan set calls for a (N) 14 GA SS downspout to be installed at the Upper Yard Shed Structure. It was discovered that the

(E) storm drainpipe at the Upper Yard is 4”. CCM proposes to install a (N) 3-3/4” round downspout to accommodate to the existing

4” storm drainpipe. Please advise.
