About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a RATO (Rocket Assisted Take Off) Motor and Initiator solicitation. The Q&A addresses two specific questions about quantities and tooling funding.

The document clarifies that the government intends to issue a 5-year IDIQ contract with five one-year ordering periods, starting from the date of contract award. The IDIQ has a minimum buy requirement of 150 motors and 150 initiators total over the 5-year period (not per year), with an IDIQ ceiling of $48M. Each ordering period has band pricing for quantities between 51-350 motors and initiators (1:1 ratio). The document also confirms that no funding is available for tooling.

Q&A:

Q: Is there an expected quantity per year and how many years RATO motors are expected to be awarded?

A: It is the USGs intent to issue a 5-year IDIQ with five (5) one year ordering periods. The first ordering period will start on the date of contract award and will last one (1) year. Each following ordering period will follow concurrently and last 1 year each (total 5 years ordering). As for estimated quantities, the IDIQ has a minimum buy of 150 motors and 150 initiators over the life of the IDIQ (the government in only required to buy 150 EA TOTAL over the 5 years, NOT 150 each year.)

It is important to note though, that the USG has also stated that the IDIQ ceiling for the life of the IDIQ is $48M. Each of the 5 ordering periods has band pricing which means that our estimated quantities (If ordered in the ordering period) could be anything between 51 – 350 motors and initiators (1:1 ratio).

Q: Is there funding available for tooling?

A: No
