General statements –
GSA will not allow mixing of steel and aluminum wheels on the same axle end. If this method must be used to provide aluminum wheels the aluminum options must be marked as Not Available.
GSA will not allow aluminum wheels that do not meet the requirements of option ALW unless one the following situations exists: a plain aluminum wheel must be provided as part of an axle GAWR increase on a truck normally furnished with steel wheels as standard or by option DTSW. A plain aluminum wheel can be furnished as an unrequested upgrade for the spare tire options which require a steel wheel as standard.
In cases where the wheel diameter and/or other aspects of the wheel create a situation where the wheel manufacturer does not offer anything more than a polished surface, GSA will accept the deviation from the required surface treatments. These circumstances must be added to the OEM Clarifications in order to be acceptable upon inspection.
