About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for the City of Lafayette's Public Library Hydraulic Elevator Modernization & Warranty Maintenance project (Project LI0105). The document addresses a specific technical inquiry from a potential bidder regarding the type of hydraulic power unit to be used in the elevator modernization project. The bidder questioned the specification of a "Dry Type" power unit, noting that modern modernizations typically use a "Submersible Type" power unit where the pump and motor are submerged within the hydraulic oil tank.
In response, the City of Lafayette clarified that they will proceed with the conveyance power unit replacement as a submersible unit, not a dry type, as indicated in Section 1.0 of the Elevator Modernization Specifications. The document encourages potential bidders to reference specific document, section, and page numbers when asking questions and indicates that updates will be posted on BidNet and additional items will be addressed during the project walkthrough. The Q&A document is dated 06/06/2025 and is part of the procurement process for this elevator modernization project.

Q3 Question: Dry Type Power Unit?
Hello, I noticed on page 27 section 1.9 of "Modernization General Conditions", that the specified Hydraulic
Power Unit has been noted as "Dry Type".
I just want to clarify whether this is a mistake or if it is the intended specification as Dry Type Power
Units are an older design that are not normally installed in modern applications.
New modernizations normally use a Submersible Type Power Unit, in which the pump and motor are submerged within the hydraulic oil tank, however, new Dry Type Power Units are still available on the market for specific applications.
Please advise.
Answer: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Regarding the Elevator Modernization
Specifications, Section 1.0 – General Description of Existing Equipment (page 29), we will proceed with the conveyance power unit replacement as a submersible unit, not a dry type.
If you come across any other discrepancies, please reference the specific document, section, and page number when reaching out. We’ll continue to update BidNet as questions arise and will also address all items during the walkthrough.
