About this file
This is a Standard Operating Procedure document issued by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the preservation of electronic equipment during cleaning operations at SunRail station platforms. The procedure establishes guidelines for protecting ticket vending machines, ticket validators, and other electronic equipment during pressure washing and station cleaning activities. The document specifies that contractors must coordinate with Bombardier's communications department manager at (407)732-6732 before commencing any cleaning work and must adhere to strict water pressure limitations not exceeding 85 psi to prevent equipment damage. The procedure requires contractors to cover ticket vending machines (two per platform) and ticket validators (three per platform) with appropriately sized tarpaulins secured with duct tape or straps during active cleaning operations, with removal and hand cleaning occurring only after the station has dried completely.
The procedure establishes mandatory protective measures designed to prevent costly damage to station infrastructure, with potential replacement costs ranging from approximately $100 to over $4,000 depending on the specific device affected. Contractors must avoid direct contact between high-pressure water and any electronic equipment and must understand the financial liability associated with equipment damage, as they are responsible for reimbursing the county for component replacement and associated labor costs. This standard operating procedure serves as the compliance framework for contractors bidding on Volusia County's SunRail cleaning services contract (Invitation for Bid #26-B-22KO) and represents critical technical requirements that responsive bidders must incorporate into their service delivery methodology and cost proposals.

SCOPE:
During the cleaning of the Sun Rail Stations the cleaning contractor needs to ensure that the electronic equipment is adequately protected. Direct contact with any electronic equipment with high pressure water should be avoided at all times. Water pressure should not exceed 85 psi. Coordinate with Bombardier's communications department manager at (407)732-6732 before cleaning of any station (see table 1 for damage amounts).
PROCEDURE:
1. Cover the Ticket Vending Machines with a tarpaulin of the proper size to cover the entire machine (2 per platform). Use Duct tape or straps to ensure that the tarp will stay in place during the station cleaning. Remove the tarp when the station is dry and hand clean the Ticket Vending Machine.
