About this file

This document is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the SunRail station platform, specifically detailing guidelines for preserving electronic equipment during station cleaning. The procedure, numbered SOP-1, provides comprehensive instructions for cleaning contractors on how to protect various electronic devices at SunRail stations, including Ticket Vending Machines, Ticket Validators, Variable Message Signs, Cameras, Emergency Call Boxes, and Passenger Assist Telephones. The document emphasizes strict protocols such as using tarpaulins to cover equipment, limiting water pressure to 85 psi, and coordinating with Bombardier's communications department before cleaning.

The document includes a reimbursement section outlining consequences if contractors fail to protect station platform electronics. If damage occurs, the contractor will be required to reimburse Bombardier Transportation North America for the cost of damaged components plus labor. A detailed Table 1 illustrates the potential costs of various electronic components, ranging from $93.87 for a speaker to $4,210.52 for a dome camera, with labor costs at $105 per hour. The procedure was signed by Miguel Torres, the FDOT/SunRail Chief Operating Officer, on 7/13/2015, and provides a comprehensive framework for maintaining the integrity of expensive electronic equipment during routine station maintenance.

Preservation of Electronic Equipment on SunRail Station Platforms

PROCEDURE NUMBER: SOP-1

PURPOSE:

To provide guidelines for preserving the electronic equipment that is installed at the

SunRail stations.

SCOPE:

During the cleaning of the Sun Rail Stations the cleaning contractor needs to ensure that the electronic equipment is adequately protected. Direct contact with any electronic equipment with high pressure water should be avoided at all times. Water pressure should not exceed 85 psi. Coordinate with Bombardier's communications department manager at (407)732-6732 before cleaning of any station (see table 1 for damage amounts).

PROCEDURE:

1. Cover the Ticket Vending Machines with a tarpaulin of the proper size to cover the entire machine (2 per platform). Use Duct tape or straps to ensure that the tarp will stay in place during the station cleaning. Remove the tarp when the station is dry and hand clean the Ticket Vending Machine.

2. Cover the Ticket Validators with a tarpaulin of the proper size to cover the entire

Validator (3 per platform). Use Duct tape or straps to ensure that the tarp will stay in place during the station cleaning. Remove the tarp when the station is dry and hand clean the Ticket Validator.
