About this file

This is a presentation deck from an Interested Parties Conference for USAID's Energy Talent Development West Africa (ETD-WA) grant opportunity, which aims to build capacity in West Africa's energy sector through an $8 million, 5-year program starting May 2025.

The procurement timeline requires questions by January 15, 2025, concept papers by January 31, and full applications (for selected organizations) by March 14, 2025. Only local organizations can apply to implement projects in one or more of 18 eligible West/Central African countries. The program will coordinate with USAID's larger $73 million Empower West Africa initiative to provide training, workshops, mentorship, business development services, and certifications focused on: optimizing utility performance, increasing off-grid generation, accelerating clean energy transition, and enhancing private sector investment. Success will be measured through indicators like number of women trained, people trained in technical energy fields, and institutions with improved clean energy capacity. The program aims to address the challenge that 220 million people in West Africa lack electricity access.
