About this file

This is an exterior siding specifications document for the Fontana Unified School District's Portable Buildings – Maintenance & Repairs contract opportunity. The document establishes mandatory standards for siding materials, installation procedures, and fastening requirements for portable building repairs across the District's 45 school sites serving approximately 32,000 students in San Bernardino County, California. T-111 exterior grade siding is designated as the only approved primary exterior siding material, with 5/8" No-Groove Rough Sawn exterior plywood permitted only in limited supplemental applications such as skirting and soffits where required to match existing aesthetics. Sealed bids are due no later than 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, through the Procurement Portal at https://procurement.opengov.com/portal/fusd. The contract resulting from this bid will have a duration of four additional years, not to exceed five years total.

Installation requirements mandate that existing damaged siding be removed and replaced in kind using new T-111 siding, installed plumb and flush to existing framing, primed on both sides, and ready to receive paint. Fasteners must consist of hot-dipped galvanized 10d box nails or equivalent galvanized framing nails installed at specified nailing schedules: 6" on center at edges and boundaries, 12" on center in field areas, and 3" on center at T-111 panel edges. New Z-metal flashing must be provided at all belly bands, horizontal transitions, and trim interfaces impacted by repairs. The District estimates annual portable building maintenance and repair costs may reach up to $1,500,000.00, though this figure is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute a guarantee or commitment to spend this amount. No substitutions or deviations from T-111 siding are permitted without prior written authorization from the District.
