About this file

This is a soil sample analytical report from the Wayne Oakland Oil Site in Royal Oak, Michigan, documenting volatile organic compound (VOC) results collected between July 2009 and July 2010. The report presents data from twelve soil sample locations (SB-36 through SB-44, with one duplicate sample) at varying depths ranging from 0.5 to 6.0 feet below ground surface. All samples were analyzed using EPA Method 8260 and were collected, extracted/digested, and analyzed between August 2009 and August 2010. The table compares detected analyte concentrations across multiple residential and groundwater protection criteria, including direct contact criteria, drinking water protection criteria, groundwater surface water interface protection criteria, groundwater contact protection criteria, and soil volatilization to indoor air inhalation criteria.

The analytical results identify 34 volatile organic compounds across the sample locations, with concentrations ranging from non-detect (ID) to values exceeding 1.1E+8 micrograms per kilogram. Key compounds detected include common chlorinated solvents such as tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene, petroleum hydrocarbons including toluene and xylenes, and oxygenated compounds such as methyl-tert-butyl ether and tetrahydrofuran. Several analytes show concentrations exceeding one or more regulatory criteria, with notations (C), (W), and (X) indicating exceeded criteria categories, critical exceedances, and other significant findings respectively. The data supports environmental assessment and remediation planning for this contaminated site.

Notes:

Analytical results are presented in µg/Kg.

"ND” indicates analyte concentration was not detected above laboratory detection limit.

Criteria are from Part 201 Generic Cleanup Criteria and Risk-Based Screening Levels (RBSLs), updated March 25, 2011.

Bolded concentrations represent a concentration above detection limits.

Highlighted concentrations indicate concentrations exceeding at least one criteria or screening level.

(3) indicates result(s) and RL(s) are estimated due to low matrix spike recovery.

(5) indicates result(s) and RL are estimated due to low continuing calibration standard criteria failure.

(7) indicates result(s) and RL(s) are estimated due to poor precision.

(+) indicates result and RL are estimated due to initial calibration standard criteria failure.

(*) indicates methods 8260 & 624 are used to analyze volatile organics that have boiling points below 200ºC. 2-Methylnaphthalene & naphthalene have boiling points above 200ºC and are better suited to analysis by methods 8270 or 625 as semivolatile organics.

(Z) indicates result reported below the RL to meet the TDL in RRD Op Memo 2 (10/22/04) multiplied by applicable dilution factor.

See the Analytical Results Notes Page found at the end of the Tables section for footnotes related to Part 201 criteria.

"<" indicates that the parameter was analyzed but not detected above the corresponding laboratory method detection limit.

Notes:

Analytical results are presented in µg/l.

"ND” indicates analyte concentration was not detected above laboratory detection limit.

"<" indicates that the parameter was analyzed but not detected above the corresponding laboratory method detection limit.

Criteria are from Part 201 Cleanup Criteria and Part 213 Risk-Based Screening Levels (RBSLs), updated March 25, 2011.

Bolded concentrations represent a concentration above detection limits.

Highlighted concentrations indicate concentrations exceeding at least one criteria or screening level.

(5) indicates result and RL are estimated due to low continuing calibration standard criteria failure.

(7) indicates results(s) and RL(s) are estimated due to poor precision.

(+) indicates result and RL are estimated due to initial calibration standard criteria failure.

(*) indicates methods 8260 & 624 are used to analyze volatile organics that have boiling points below 200ºC. 2-Metylnaphthalene & naphthalene have boiling points above 200ºC and are better suited to analysis by methods 8270 or 625 as semivolatile organics.

(Z) indicates result reported below the RL to meet the TDL in RRD Op Memo 2 (10/22/04) multiplied by applicable dilution factor.

See the Analytical Results Notes Page found at the end of the Tables section for footnotes related to Part 201 criteria.
