About this file
This is a preventive maintenance and inspection checklist attachment for emergency generator sets located at Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers in South Dakota. The checklist is designed to be completed during October/November preventive maintenance inspections and serves as a standardized reporting tool for contractor performance.
The checklist encompasses 39 inspection and maintenance items covering mechanical components, fluid systems, electrical systems, and safety devices. Key inspection areas include mechanical fasteners and mounts, hoses and clamps, coolant systems, fuel and oil leaks, drive belts, fluid levels, crankcase breather, governor sensitivity, battery condition and charger operation, exhaust systems, safety shutdown circuits, generator bearings, electrical wiring, transfer switches, and day tank operation. Contractors must perform exercise operations to check for unusual vibration or noise, conduct megger readings on rotor and stator windings, clean radiators and compressed air accumulation, and perform sample analysis on oil, coolant, and fuel. Annual load bank testing is required with documentation. Contractors must document findings using a coding system (X=Checked Okay, A=Additional Work Required, R=Required Adjustment/Repair, C=Critical Repair Required, N/A=Not Applicable), include hour meter readings and battery test results, and submit completed reports with recommendations and actions taken to the Facility Point of Contact within 30 days of inspection completion. Oil changes will be scheduled separately based on hour meter readings and require advance approval from the Fort Meade and Hot Springs facility coordinators.
