About this file
This is a 100% Construction Documents technical specification file for the installation of a new hydraulic elevator (Elevator P-8) at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The project involves installing a two-speed side opening hydraulic elevator with a 5,000 lb capacity, traveling at 100 feet per minute through three floors, with openings at the lower level, ground, and first floors. Additionally, the project includes upgrading the existing Elevator P-7 to include a duplex microprocessor control system and two-way communication requirements compliant with ASME A17.1 2019 Edition.
Key technical specifications include a dual jack telescopic plunger system, microprocessor control with features like emergency power operation, firefighter's service, medical emergency service, and independent service modes. The elevator will have comprehensive safety and communication features, including an auto-dial telephone system, digital position indicators, audio voice announcements, and emergency help buttons. The installation requires careful coordination with existing hospital operations, adherence to seismic design requirements, and compliance with VA and NEC electrical and safety standards. The project is part of the VA's ongoing facility modernization efforts to improve elevator infrastructure and patient care accessibility.
