About this file

This document is a comprehensive technical specification for a federal construction project (Specification Section 00 01 10) at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, New York. The project, numbered 528A6-24-612, involves connecting Post Indicator Valves (PIVs) to the fire alarm system and involves three primary scopes of work: 1) Installing bollard protection for 22 PIVs by removing existing bollards, surveying locations, and installing new protective barriers, 2) Adding radio-based system supervision for PIVs to integrate with existing Johnson Controls/Honeywell Verifire fire alarm systems, and 3) Updating the fire alarm system in Building 78 (Community Living Center) to support 11 separate zones, including 9 living spaces, an attic, and a crawlspace, with new voice alarm capabilities.

The specification provides extensive technical details across multiple sections, including requirements for electrical installations, fire detection and alarm systems, concrete work, earthwork, and vehicle barriers. The project involves complex integration with existing infrastructure, requiring careful coordination with VA medical facility operations. Key technical challenges include working around legacy underground systems, protecting valves from equipment and vehicle impacts, and implementing system changes in an active healthcare environment. The project aims to enhance fire safety monitoring and response capabilities across the VA Medical Center's campus, with specific attention to modernizing fire alarm zoning and supervision methods.
