About this file

This document is a product overview for the Mobile Awareness GEOINT Environment (MAGE), a situational awareness and mobile data collection platform developed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). MAGE provides real-time tracking and data sharing capabilities for teams operating in challenging environments, including low bandwidth or disconnected settings. The platform enables users to collect geo-tagged observation data through mobile apps, share location information, and create custom forms with media attachments across iOS and Android devices.

Key features include maintaining real-time situational awareness, collecting data offline, creating mission-specific custom forms, exporting data for GIS analysis, and supporting custom integrations via ReST API. Organizations can deploy their own MAGE web application server on cloud or on-site infrastructure, with administrators able to manage user accounts, devices, map layers, and observation forms. The software is open-source and can be accessed through GitHub, Google Play, App Store, NIPRnet, and Pix via Partner Applications. The platform is designed for diverse missions such as disaster response, urban search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, and scientific observation.

Text version

Overview MAGE provides real-time situational awareness of team members’ observations and locations. While operating in a low bandwidth or disconnected environment, team members can continue to collect data offline which MAGE automatically shares with the team when connectivity when a data connection is available.

What can teams do with MAGE?

MAGE’s mobile data collection and sharing capabilities are ideal for disaster response, urban search and rescue, monitoring illicit trafficking, humanitarian assistance, training exercise support, scientific observation, and any other location-oriented mission or task. Teams can use the MAGE mobile app to collect geo-tagged observation data in custom forms with attached media such as photos, audio, and video. When a team member creates an observation, MAGE instantly shares the observation to the rest of the team. With location sharing enabled, MAGE also continuously updates and shares all team members’ locations. At any time during an event, an event manager can export observation and location data in a variety of formats for analysis with other tools.
