Questions and Answers
7/20/2016
Question 1. Sheet G-001- Note 22 states “All exposed welds shall be ground smooth…” Typically structural welds are not ground smooth and it appears all the new steel is structural for duct supports/equipment supports. Will these supports require welds to be ground smooth?
Answer 1. Grinding structural welds smooth is not required. Change the note to, “Chip slag and flux from structural welds.”
Question 2. Sheet A4.01- Detail notes 2, 4, 5, and 6 are contained in a bubble with a note stating “Not in contract repair by owner” yet they are referenced by detail/section 3 on same sheet. Are these notes or the work identified by these notes part of this contract?
Answer 2. Delete the note that indicates that this work is not in contract. Perform repair work as indicated on sheet A4.01.
Question 3. Sheet A4.01 – If detail note 6 is applicable what is “2” extra strong pipe”? And what type of roofing cap is required as there is no specification section for roofing?
Answer 3. Revise detail 6 requirements to the following: “Cut existing pipe flush with the roof then patch the existing built-up roof to make water-tight.”
Question 4. Sheet A4.01- Detail 3 is identified “South Wall elevation – North Sim.” Will window cleaning and window film identified by keynote 1 be required at the north elevation also? The square footage identified by the keynote appears low, has it been confirmed or are dimensions available for the actual window sizes?
Answer 4. Yes, cleaning and application of new solar film will be required at both the north and south hangar doors. Do not assume that any the quantities or dimensions provided in the plans are accurate, field verify.
Question 5. Specification Section 08 37 13 Paragraph 3.1A. 1. States” Glass surfaces receiving new film should first be examined to verify that they are free of defects and imperfections, which will affect the final appearance.” Is all of the glazing free of defects or have any defects be noted? Should allowances/provisions be figured if there are defects, or the glazing putty is missing? The glazing putty is to be considered ACM (hot) per note 14 on Sheet G-001. If glazing putty requires correction/removal what type of allowance should be figured?
Answer 5. It is the bidder’s responsibility to field verify the condition of the existing glazing. The existing glazing putty is considered to contain asbestos (Sheet G-001 General Note #14). Follow the requirements detailed in specification section 01 35 40.00 20, paragraph 1.7.3 if asbestos containing materials are disturbed.
Question 6. Sheet S-000 – General note #5 is contrary to General Note #5 on Sheet G-001and was subsequently addressed by Addendum #1, the same applies to General Note 12 on Sheet M-000. What note will apply?
Answer 6. General Note #5 on sheet G-001 is applicable, disregard General Note #5 on sheet S-000.
Question 7. Sheet S-001- Foundation Note 8 states “Sub-base below slabs on grade shall be supported on natural grade or structural fill…” Is there a Geotechnical Report to address existing soil properties/recommendations?
Answer 7. No geotechnical report is available.
Question 8. Sheet S-001- Structural Steel Note #10 makes reference to fireproofing. Is fireproofing required for new mechanical assemblies?
Answer 8. Should fireproofing be required on any structural steel, this note applies.
Question 9. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.1 Item 2 states “The hazardous material abatement scope includes: a. Remove and/or encapsulate existing lead paint that is located on existing structural members in hangar.” Is there a formal survey that has been conducted for lead paint removal or is Contractor required to provide said survey?
Answer 9. Assume that all of the structural members in the hangar have lead paint on them. Prior to performing any work that will disturb the lead paint, it must be abated.
Question 10. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.1 Item #3 states “The architectural scope includes: Not Applicable” If radiant heater additive bid is accepted is there not ceiling work that needs to occur?
Answer 10. Yes.
Question 11. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work - Article 1.1.3 1. References an “Exhibit
C”. What or where is Exhibit C?
Answer 11. Change “Exhibit C” to “Drawings.”
Question 12. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.4.1 states “A CFD analysis will be performed…” Is this analysis being performed by Contractor or Government? And if performed by
Contractor what are the requirements or methods to be used? This analysis is used “to determine the effectiveness of the forced air heating system and to assist with diffuser selections.” The mechanical drawings indicate all diffusers are existing and to remain, so diffuser selection appears contradictory?
Answer 12. Disregard this note as the diffusers per the drawings are to be reused.
Question 13. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.6.1 indicates “a new water system for the evaporative coolers will be analyzed for delivery and water quality concerns. A filtration and solid bleed system will be incorporated….” The plumbing drawings don’t contain an equipment schedule to identify what type of filtration system is required, or water softeners. Are these required?
Answer 13. No, a filtration and solid bleed system is no longer a requirement.
Question 14. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.7.4 states “Frost proof wall hydrants will be provided around perimeter of building at +/- 100 foot centers…” Are wall hydrants required on all elevations or just the west elevation?
Answer 14. Install frost proof hydrants only on the west elevation.
Question 15. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.1.10.3 states “NG piping inside the facility will be schedule 40 black steel with welded joints.” The plumbing drawings specifically detail
1 on sheet P-000 indicates threaded fittings. Can gas piping be installed with threaded fittings or is welding the only acceptable method? If welding is the only acceptable method a good portion of the existing ceiling will need to be removed for fire concerns; floor protection will also be required if floor has any finish other than concrete. Is this a correct assumption?
Answer 15. Yes.
Question 16. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work - Article 1.1.11.2 References an “Exhibit
A”. What or where is Exhibit A?
Answer 16. Disregard the reference to “Exhibit A.”
Question 17. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work - Article 1.1.11.4 References an “Exhibit
B”. What or where is Exhibit B?
Answer 17. Disregard the reference to “Exhibit B.”
Question 18. Specification Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work – Article 1.7 states “The Contractor shall maintain and operate existing HVAC system to allow uninterrupted services during the period of construction….”It appears the space allocated for the new equipment or where the new equipment is shown is not sufficient to install new AHU’s while the existing HVAC equipment remains. Is it the intent that the Contractor supply a temporary HVAC system for the hanger in order to demolish the existing equipment?
Answer 18. Temporary heating and cooling will not be required.
