About this file

This document is an Amendment (Amendment 0003) to the Navy solicitation NAVMWR-25-R-0008 for the NAS Corpus Christi Splash Pad project. The amendment includes a series of clarification questions and answers related to the design and construction details of the splash pad. Key clarifications include confirmation that the splash pad should ideally stay within the 92-foot diameter of the existing kiddie pool area, designers have flexibility in water play feature arrangements, and the project will maintain a four-color jet-themed surface design. Critical cautionary notes emphasize avoiding the existing pump and storage room due to asbestos contamination, which could significantly delay project completion if disturbed.

The amendment provides specific guidance on design parameters, such as maintaining the existing main water play structure and slides while allowing some design flexibility. Notable points include recommendations to keep the splash pad within the original pool boundaries, use four colors in the surface design, and explicitly avoid the existing pump room due to asbestos. The government indicates they do not have specific technical details like water flow rates or electrical specifications, leaving those as potential areas for contractor investigation and design solution.

Block 14 Continued:

A. Clarifications:

Q-16. As a Design-Build project, may we build a spray pad including the dry apron, the sidewalks and the different ADA access points to be under the 80 ft. x 80 ft. area mentioned in our Team meeting? Or do we have the design flexibility to expand outside the old boundaries/fence lines of the kiddie pool area?

A-16. The existing kiddie pool has a 92ft diameter, so ideally, the splash pad alone would stay within that size range, plus slope/ sidewalk around it.

Q-17. Do our designers have flexibility concerning the mix of water play features to make everything fit safely with adequate egress? We would of course not change the main themed water play structure, slides and major features.

A-17. Yes.

Q-18. Can we get an idea of the gallons per minute (GPM) of water feed to the kiddie pool currently? A large spray pad with multiple features will need an extra large tank and plenty of water for the fill the pipes and tanks adequately.

A-18. We do not have this information.

Q-19. The colored surface with jet shapes and 4 colors is beautiful but will require some weeks to get each color applied/dried step by step. It will also be expensive. Can we consider a slightly different motif with 1-2 colors? The Air Force logos would remain the same on the actual features.

A-19. For this part of the process, let's stick with four colors and the jet theme.

Q-20. May we use the existing pump and storage room building to build in the new pumps, filtrations systems, manifold and control/VFD panels? This would avoid building any new structure which might require the base's architectural review.

A-20. It is highly recommended to stay away from that room as it contains asbestos, and the remediation process will signifyingly delay the project completion date.

Q-21. Can we receive details of the Voltage/Amperage available to the building now?

Three-Phase or single phase?

A-21. We do not have this information.

Q-22. Does the building contain asbestos? If so, where is it and should our bid include remediation?

A-22. It is highly recommended to stay away from that room as it contains asbestos, and the remediation process will signifyingly delay the project completion date.
