About this file
This document is a Calibration Standard Specification (CSS 04-3008) from the Department of the Navy's Metrology and Calibration Program that details the technical requirements for a Fiber Optic Measurement System (FOMS). The specification outlines requirements for multiple components including laser sources at 850nm, 1310nm, and 1550nm wavelengths; Ge optical detectors for both 850nm and 790-1610nm ranges; variable attenuators for 850nm and 1310/1550nm applications; and various optical connector adapters and patch cables.
The system must operate on 109.25V to 126V AC power at 50/60 Hz ±5%, maintain performance in temperatures from 15-30°C operating (−30 to 60°C non-operating) and up to 90% relative humidity, and achieve specified performance after a 1-hour warm-up period. Key technical specifications include laser sources with >+3 dBm output power for 850nm and >+13 dBm for 1310/1550nm, optical detectors with uncertainties of ±2.2-2.5%, variable attenuators with 0-60 dB range and 0.001 dB resolution, and multiple connector interfaces (FC/PC, SMA, SC, ST) with quantities of 4 each. The system requires digital control interfaces including IEEE 488.2 GPIB and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet with LXI compatibility.
