About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for the AIMD Corrosion Control federal contract opportunity, updated September 14, 2026.
The document addresses four key clarifications regarding the Performance Work Statement (PWS). First, references to Corrosion Levels 1–5 have been removed from the PWS because structural repairs will be completed by AIMD prior to releasing equipment to the contractor, eliminating the need for the contractor to perform repair work at varying corrosion levels. Second, regarding underbody and boxed-structure rustproofing materials, there is no specific MIL-SPEC requirement; contractors should propose a commercial rustproofing product as an industry equivalent. Third, all references to "nano-coating" have been removed from the PWS; the specific paint sealant is listed in the required materials section, while undercoating can remain commercial. Fourth, the government acknowledged that current photographs of the equipment listed in Attachment 04 are not readily available but recommended that interested offerors schedule a site visit to assess equipment condition, corrosion areas, and undercarriage details to develop accurate pricing. Site visit details are provided in Attachment 07.

AIMD – Corrosion Control
Questions and Answers: Updated 14 September 2026
1. Corrosion Levels 1–5 / Firm-Fixed Unit Pricing
The PWS references Corrosion Levels 1–5 and states that the corrosion category will be verified during the joint inspection; however, the solicitation provides a single firm-fixed unit price for each equipment type. Please clarify whether each CLIN unit price is expected to include
Corrosion Levels 1–5 regardless of the level identified at inspection and provide the definitions/work scope associated with Corrosion Levels 1–5.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: We can remove reference to corrosion levels since we will not be requesting repairs. The structural repairs needed will be completed by AIMD prior to releasing equipment to the contractor.
KO: References to corrosion levels are removed from the PWS. See the amended PWS.
The structural repairs needed will be completed by AIMD prior to releasing equipment to the contractor.
2. Underbody/Boxed-Structure Rustproofing Material
The PWS requires rustproofing of underbody surfaces and boxed-in internal structures but does not identify a specific governing product specification. Please clarify whether the Government requires the rustproofing compound to conform to a specific MIL-SPEC or NAVAIR-approved
CPC specification, or whether a commercial rustproofing product may be proposed as an industry equivalent.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: There is no specific rustproofing MIL-SPEC. Request a commercial rustproofing product be proposed as an industry equivalent.
KO: There is no specific rustproofing MIL-SPEC. A commercial rustproofing product should be included in the proposal as an industry equivalent.
3. “Nano Coating or Industry Equivalent”
The PWS references application of a “nano coating or industry equivalent.” Please identify the required performance standard, specification, approved product, or intended function of this coating so offerors can price and propose an equivalent treatment consistently.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: We can remove "nano-coating" references. The specific paint sealant is listed in the required materials and the undercoating can remain commercial.
KO: References to "nano-coating" is removed from the PWS. See the amended PWS.
4. Are current photographs available of the equipment listed in Attachment 04? Photos showing each unit’s overall condition, areas of corrosion, and undercarriage would help us assess the work required and develop accurate pricing.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: It would take a couple of days to compile photographs.
Recommend scheduling a Site Visit.
