INSTRUCTIONS
OBJECTIVE
1. These instructions have been prepared as an aid to operating personnel using this
Trim and Stability Booklet to determine the vessel’s operating metacentric height
(corrected available GM), trim, and drafts for any condition of loading or operation.
2. It will be the Master’s responsibility to maintain the vessel in a satisfactory stability condition at all times so as to meet the USCG intact stability requirements per 46 CFR part 170.
GENERAL NOTES
1. Vertical centers are measured in feet above baseline and longitudinal centers in feet aft of the forward perpendicular (Frame 5).
2. All tons used throughout this booklet are long tons (LTON) of 2240 pounds.
3. All water tanks less than 100% full, shall be considered slack. All fuel oil, fuel oil service, and lube oil storage tanks less than 95% full, shall also be considered slack.
4. The vertical moment of free surface (VMFS) for any empty tank shall be zero. The free surface of a 100% full tank shall be zero, except as noted in the operating instructions.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Wing tanks shall be filled or consumed one pair at a time to avoid undesirable list.
2. For each liquid on board (excluding fuel oil service tanks, lube oil tanks, and potable water tanks) not more than one center tank or one pair of wing tanks shall be slack at the same time.
3. Bilges shall be kept pumped to a minimum content at all times.
4. Free surfaces shall be kept to a minimum at all times.
5. Cross-connections between all port and starboard wing tanks shall be kept closed at all times when underway.
6. Ballast tanks shall be slack only when filling or emptying. When not ballasted, all salt water tanks shall be kept pumped periodically to assure minimum content at all times.
7. During ballasting, a reduction in the vessel’s GM due to slack tank free surface will occur until the tanks are pressed up. This temporary loss of GM is equal to the salt water free surface moment of the tank (or tanks), divided by the vessel’s displacement at the time of ballasting.

INSTRUCTIONS (CONT.)
8. When salt water ballast must be added during a voyage, prudent operation dictates that it should be added well in advance of drawing fuel. Therefore, compensating salt water ballast should be introduced and pressed up prior to the drawing of fuel to minimize free surface loss and ensure adequate stability at all times.
9. If filling levels of non-consumable tanks ( e. g. Ballast) are changed during a voyage, maximum free surface values for the affected tanks shall be applied when performing manual calculations to evaluate the stability of the condition.
CargoMax uses “as-filled” VCGs and VMFS values; CargoMax results may differ from the manual calculations results. Manual calculations per the instruction in this booklet take precedent over CargoMax calculations.
10. Deck cargo shall not exceed 85 long tons when using the crane at sea. When at sea, the crane shall be operated at the derated dynamic (vice static) capacities listed on the capacity chart through Sea State 3 (i.e. maximum of 4 ft. waves, 16 kts wind). For special at-sea salvage operations the crane shall be loaded to no more than 90% of its static rated capacity at a luff angle of 45º or higher up to mid-Sea State 3 (i.e. maximum of 2.9 ft. waves). Under no circumstances shall the crane be operated when the roll exceeds 7 degrees in 12 seconds or less, or when the vessel experiences wetness on the main deck amidships.
With a crane load of 1.5 long tons, the resulting heel angles are as indicated:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPUTATION OF SHIP’S TRIM AND STABILITY
The following procedure, used in solving example conditions on worksheets 1-3, shall be used to calculate vessel’s corrected available GM, trim, and drafts for any condition of loading.
Using appendices as an example enter the weight, and vertical moment of free surface
(VMFS) for every tank containing a liquid on blank worksheets 2-3. Also enter the weight, VCG, and LCG for any other loads such deck cargo, crane load, etc.
(see Appendix E).
Note: The following rules shall be applied to avoid undetected stability loss due to unnoticed free surfaces or crane load and to assure that diesel oil tanks may be emptied in any sequence:
Lube oil storage tanks and the diesel oil service tank shall be considered slack at all times.
The total VMFS value for all diesel oil tanks shall not be less than 481.3 ft-1 tons. This value is equal to the maximum slack value of Diesel Oil Tank
No. 6 which is the greatest VMFS of any transverse pair or single centerline tank.

The vertical center of gravity of the potable water tanks, which are cylindrical and longitudinally aligned, shall always be assumed to act at the axis of rotation (i.e. metacenter) 16.26 feet above baseline regardless of content.
For weights handled by the crane, the VCG shall be assumed to act at the boom head sheave of the crane. See sheet 17 for the boom head sheave VCG above the baseline for various boom attitudes.
2. Multiply each weight by its VCG and LCG and enter the product in the vertical moment and longitudinal moment columns respectively.
3. For each category, sum the weights, vertical moments, longitudinal moments, and VMFS. Divide the sums of the vertical and longitudinal moments by the sum of the weight to obtain the resultant VCG and LCG of each deadweight category. Transfer the resultant weights, centers, moments, and VMFS for each category on worksheets 2-3 to the appropriate category line on worksheet 1.
4. On worksheet 1, sum the weights, vertical and longitudinal moments, and VMFS for each category to obtain the total displacement values. Divide the total vertical and longitudinal moments by displacement to obtain the resultant ship
KG and LCG respectively.
5. From the tabular hydrostatics on sheet 10 at the corresponding displacement, obtain the draft at the longitudinal center of flotation (LCF draft), the height of the transverse metacenter above the baseline (KMt), the longitudinal center of buoyancy (LCB), the longitudinal center of flotation (LCF), and the moment to the trim one inch (MT1”).
The required metacentric height (GMr) is found using the curve on sheet 11 for normal missions. For SRS-RCS missions, use the curve in Addendum 1.
6. Subtract KG from KMt to obtain real GM uncorrected for free surface.
7. Divide total VMFS by displacement to obtain the rise in KG due to free surface and subtract from uncorrected GM to obtain apparent or corrected GM.
8. Available metacentric height (GM avail) corrected for free surface must exceed required metacentric height (GM req’d). When available GM is plotted verses amidships draft on sheet 11, the available GM must always plot to the right of the required GM curve.
9. Subtract LCB from LCG to obtain trim lever. A positive (+) trim lever results in trim by the stern and a negative (-) trim lever in the trim by the bow.
10. Multiply trim lever by displacement to obtain trimming moment. Divide the trimming moment by the MT1” and 12 inches per foot to obtain trim in feet.

11. Drafts at the perpendiculars and the mean amidships draft may be calculated from the following algebraic formulae:
Draft at F.P. = Draft at LCF - (LCF) X (Trim/195)
Draft at A.P. = Draft at F.P. + Trim
Draft Amidships = (Draft at F.P. + Draft at A.P.)/2
12. Drafts at the marks may be calculated from the following formulae:
Draft at Forward Marks = Draft Amidships - (87.5) X (Trim/195)
Draft at Amidships Marks = Draft Amidships + (4.67)X(Trim/195)
Draft at After Marks = Draft Amidships + (97.58)X(Trim/195)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The CargoMax program is a computerized system for planning and evaluating ship loading.
It quickly and precisely calculates ship stability based on any loading condition specified by the user.
The program is developed from technical information that reflects the physical characteristics of the ship. This information includes, hydrostatic data, tank data, and lightship weight data. The use of this information allows customization of input screens that support quick and efficient entry of ship loading data.
The program allows storage of loading conditions on a disk. These stored conditions may be recalled at any time for modification and reevaluation.
CargoMax is based on a geometric model of the ship and the approved Trim and Stability
Booklet. It is important that the vessel operator review the information provided in the Trim and Stability Booklet carefully and confirm that the software reflects the vessel’s present condition. Results for each sample condition may not agree exactly with the numbers provided in the Trim and Stability Booklet because CargoMax calculates vertical moments based on “as filled” VCG’s, so the hand calculated results with assumed
100% VCG’s will in most cases be more conservative than CargoMax. THE TRIM AND
STABILITY BOOKLET, HOWEVER SHOULD ALWAYS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER CARGOMAX WHEN UNEXPLAINED
DIFFERENCES OCCUR. These Differences should be reported immediately to the MSC
Headquarters’ Naval Architecture Branch (MSC Code N721).
Remember, CARGOMAX IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR THE TRIM AND STABILITY BOOKLET. The user should be familiar with the Trim and Stability Booklet and refer to it often.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
CargoMax requires the following minimum system:
1. A 486-class or higher IBM PS/2 or IBM-compatible computer.
2. Microsoft Windows 95 or later.
3. 4 MB RAM
4. One CD-ROM drive and one hard drive with approximately 5 MB of free space.
5. VGA display.
It is recommended that the system have the following:
1. A super VGA (800x600) display.
2. A Pentium-class or higher processor.
3. Laser Printer
4. Microsoft Windows 98 or higher.
5. 32 MB RAM.
6. UPS (Un-interruptible power supply)
Additional CargoMax capabilities:
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP.

Installing CargoMax for Windows
Read Me File: Before you install CargoMax, take a moment to read the Read Me File, which is in the Microsoft Write format. The Read Me File contains information on compatibility and changes to CargoMax that are not included in the manual.
1. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu (In Win95, choose Run from the
Start menu).
2. Insert CargoMax CD in Drive D. If you are installing from another drive, substitute that letter for “D”.
3. Type the following command and press Enter: Write D:README.WRI
4. Microsoft Write then opens the README.WRI file. From this application you can read or print the Read Me File.
What Setup Does: Setup performs the following:
1. Creates a HSSI Applications Program Group in Program Manager (In Win95 it creates a folder in the Start Menu under Programs).
2. Creates a \lmi directory for the CargoMax program files (the actual name and location of the directory can be changed during the setup process; for best results, the name should be kept short, ie. less than 10 characters).
3. Copies program language utilities to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory and registers them with your system (a backup of all system files which are overwritten can also be made).
4. Provides an uninstall capability.
Using Setup
1. Start Windows.
2. Close all other programs running in the Windows Program Manager.
3. Insert the CargoMax CD in the CD-ROM drive. This example uses drive D. If you use a different drive, substitute for letter D.
4. Choose Run from the Start menu.
5. Type the following command and then press Enter: D:SETUP
6. The Setup program will prompt you for the directory name into which you want to copy the CargoMax program files (C:\lmi is the default and is recommended in order to make future updates easier).
Default Directory Substructure: The following default directory structure is created by the Setup program:
\lmi\data
\lmi\data\loadcase
\lmi\data\shipcase
\lmi\programs
\lmi\programs\wincmax

ADDENDUM 1
REQUIRED GM CURVE FOR SRS-RCS MISSIONS
APPLICABILITY
The Required GM Curve in this addendum may only be used when the ship is outfitted with the Submarine Rescue System Rescue Capable System (SRS-RCS). While the ship is participating in a SRS-RCS mission it is prohibited from performing any other towing or salvage mission.
The ‘Transit’ portion of the required GM curve governs stability requirements while the ship is transiting to and from station. While transiting the
Pressurized Recovery Module (PRM) and the Launch and Recovery System (LARS) must be in their stowed position.
The ‘On Station’ portion of the required GM curve governs stability requirements while the ship is on station. The ship is considered to be on station when the PRM is deployed or in the process of being deployed. The PRM is considered to be deployed when the LARS is in the outboard launch position, it does not matter if the PRM is in the water or not.
CargoMax® INSTRUCTIONS
Use the tables on ADDENDUM 1-3 to input the weights and centers of the SRS-RCS equipment in to CargoMax®. When the PRM is transitioning from the stowed to the deployed position use the centers listed in the ‘PRM Lift’ table for the LARS and
PRM. When the PRM is deployed use the centers in the ‘PRM Deployed’ table for the
LARS and PRM.
Equipment locations should be verified against the actual installation.
The correct Required GM Curve must be chosen in CargoMax®. The default curve is the Required GM Curve on Sheet 11 of the T&S Book. Choose the ‘Transit’ curve for conditions where the ship is transiting and the ‘PRM Lift’ curve for conditions where the ship is on station. To select the required GM curve go to the ‘Tools’ menu Æ ‘Options’ Æ select the ‘Criteria’ tab Æ select the appropriate curve from the ‘Required GMt’ dropdown menu.
Two sample SRS-RCS load cases, Full Load Departure and PRM Lift at Intermediate
Loading, are included at the end of this addendum.
