About this file

This is an Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) survey report from the Industrial Hygienist at NMRTU Earle regarding mold inspection in Buildings C-10, C-11, C-12, and C-13 at Naval Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, NJ, dated April 14, 2023.

The survey found localized spots of white mold growth on rafters in the attic spaces of four two-story masonry buildings used for barracks/lodging. The buildings had attic ventilation issues with multiple inoperable fans, and temperature/humidity readings taken on April 12, 2023 showed attic conditions of 95.6-100.7°F with 19.6-29.9% relative humidity. Key recommendations include: consulting with NAVFAC PWD to repair attic ventilation systems, replacing missing insulation, cleaning mold from rafters using N95 masks and PPE, maintaining humidity below 60%, and following specific mold prevention practices like keeping windows closed during AC operation and quickly addressing water issues. Building C-10 (MWR Deer Run Lodging) showed the least mold presence, while Building C-13 recently underwent mold remediation on its lower floors. The report includes photos documenting the mold conditions in the attics.
