1.0 ABSTRACT
This item describes replacing drain piping sections from carbon steel piping with 90/10 copper nickel piping on the bilges in Cargo Aux Pump Room.

3.0 ITEM LOCATION/DESCRIPTION
3.1 Location: Cargo & Aux Pump Room (5-34-0)
3.2 Bill of Material (Contractor Furnished):
3.2.1 The contractor shall provide the exact quantities and (reasonable) additional material such as fittings, welding material, hangers, sealant, fasteners, etc., in order to install a fully functional system that meets the requirements of this specification. Materials not used shall be turned over to the ship.

4.0 GOVERNMENT FURNISHED EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL/SERVICES: None
5.0 NOTES
5.1 The Contractor and all Subcontractors, regardless of tier, must consult Military Sealift Command’s General Technical Requirements (GTRs) to determine applicability to this work item. The Contractor and all Subcontractors, regardless of tier, must comply with all applicable GTR requirements.
5.2 The Contractor and all Subcontractors shall review other work items under this contract to determine their effect on the work required by this item. Based on this review the Contractor shall plan and schedule work to minimize conflicts between work items.
5.3 THE USNS LEWIS AND CLARK ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE HOT UNTIL TESTED OTHERWISE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DEAD PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.
5.4 The Contractor shall perform a ship check to retrieve accurate measurements and information before conducting work. Shipyard shall not assume valve numbers are correct as it can vary from ship to ship.
6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
6.1 All welding requirements shall be accomplished by certified welders. All welders shall be certified to perform the type of welding required and documentation of such shall be current.
6.2 Clean and Gas Free affected enclosed space per local procedures as approved by the ship and/or MSCREP.
7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED
7.1 Contractor shall accomplish ship check with C/E, PPE & Cargo Engineer prior to starting any work. SF will tag out system.
7.2 Contractor shall drain and dispose fluids from affected system IAW local regulations.
Note: DO NOT DRAIN FLUIDS INTO BILGES.
7.3 COLD cut existing piping section identified by MSC Rep and Ships force.
7.4 Assume 200 linear feet of piping will be replaced. Use removed piping as a template to replace removed carbon steel piping and fittings with contractor provided material in section 3.2.1.
7.5 Piping system shall be supported with pipe hangers/supports as existing. New gaskets shall be provided with all new joint make-ups.
7.6 Provide new fasteners and gaskets for new flanges. Anti-seize compound shall be applied to prevent future seizure of nuts/bolts.
7.6.1 Welding and brazing of the joints for piping systems shall conform to ASTM F722, ABS Rules 4-6-2, 2-4-4/5.7, and USCG 46 CFR Part 56.
7.8 Testing/Inspection
7.8.1 Contractor shall perform functional, operational, and hydrostatic tightness tests with MSC Rep. Hydrostatic test shall be conducted at 25 psi. Contractor shall correct any leak or discrepancy found during testing
7.9 Painting/Insulation
7.9.1 Clean, prepare and prime all new and disturbed piping sections with contractor provided paint. Apply a primer and two topcoats to all areas to match the surrounding areas.
7.9.2 Renew all removed and disturbed insulation.
7.10 Clean all affected areas by the performance of this work item. Submit completion report to the MSC Rep and Chief Engr.
