USNS BIG HORN (T-AO 198)
REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
DATE: ___10 September 2015_________________
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: ___ _______________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: ____506_________________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:____various________________
TITLE: ____Air Conditioning (A/C) and Reefer Compressor Overhaul_
QUESTION:
Paragraph 7.3 says to pump all refrigerant into system receiver on a/c unit #1 and refrigeration unit #1. Paragraph 7.7 says to perform a complete system leak test and hold pressure for 12 hours on #1 a/c and #1 reefer.
We can do leak test but it will have to be with refrigerant only. If you put nitrogen into a system with refrigerant that is in the receiver, you will contaminate the refrigerant in the receiver and it will have to be replaced. You could recover all refrigerant out of #1 a/c and #1 reefer systems, but this is not asked for in bid specification.
Paragraph 7.3 says to pump all refrigerant into system receiver on a/c unit #1 and refrigeration unit #1. Paragraph 7.6.1 says to perform vacuum test on #1 a/c and #1 reefer system.
Unless we recover all refrigerant from #1 a/c and #1 reefer system, you only want to pull a vacuum on the new compressor and refrigerant piping that was open to atmosphere.
How should we proceed?
ANSWER: Quote the Work Item as though the refrigerant in both units will be recovered by the contractor using an external recovery unit and clean reclaim bottles.
