ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SAFETY INFORMATION

1 INTRODUCTION

MSN8200 is designed to operate safely when installed and used according to the product instructions and general safety practices. The guidelines included in this chapter explain the potential risks associated with equipment operation and provide important safety practices designed to minimize these risks. Carefully following the information contained in this chapter, and the specific instructions provided with equipment, protects individuals from hazards and creates a safer work environment.

2 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

This equipment operates safely when used according to their marked electrical ratings and product usage instructions.

Servicing

Other than the exceptions explained elsewhere in the Handbook documentation, do not service any equipment yourself. Opening or removing covers that are marked with warning symbols or labels may expose you to electric shock. Service needed on components, inside these compartments, should be carried out by qualified maintenance personnel.

Ventilation

Openings in the equipment are provided for ventilation and should never be blocked or covered, since these ensure reliable operation of the product and protect it from overheating.

Allow sufficient air circulation around the equipment to ensure adequate cooling of the device. Prevent direct exposure to radiant heat sources.

Water and Moisture

Do not use the equipment in a wet location.

Protective Earth.

The equipment has a three-wire electrical grounding-type plug with a third pin for grounding.

This plug only fits into a grounded electrical power. This is a safety feature. Do not override the safety purpose of the plug by inserting it into a non-grounded outlet, or connecting to a source with no ground connection.

Page 6 MSN 8200 Handbook Sept 2017

NOTE This symbol indicates a chassis earth connection.

This connection should be connected to a functional (RF quiet) earth to enhance the performance of the receiver system, which will enhance the immunity of the equipment against conducted and radiated RF disturbance. It is also recommended that earth continuity is checked at regular intervals.

WARNING THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY FROM ELECTRIC SHOCK

IF THE INSTUCTIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED.

Power Sources

The equipment should be operated only from the correct power source (refer to installation section Chapter4 this manual)

NOTE This symbol indicates the presence of electric shock hazards.

Enclosures marked with these symbols should be opened only by an authorized service provider.

WARNING TO AVOID RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN.

REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED PERSONNEL

When connecting and removing antenna connections there is a risk of electric shock from co-sited transmitters.

Ensure appropriate precautions are taken.

NOTE This symbol indicates the presence of neutral fuse. Thus both live and neutral lines in the power supply are fused to allow for floating supply faults.

Cleaning

Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

Replacement Parts

When replacement parts are required, ensure the service provider uses replacement parts specified by this Manual.

Repair

Installing accessories in safety interlocked areas should be carried out only by persons who are qualified in servicing equipment and trained to deal with products capable of producing hazardous energy levels.

Rack-Mountable

As a rack allows for equipment components to be stacked vertically, precautions must be taken to ensure rack stability and safety:

NOTE: The ON/OFF switch located on the front panel (Figure 2-1:

Front panel) does not completely switch off the transceiver.

It disables all internal supply rails within the transceiver except the standby supply within the power supply module.

HAZARD WARNING

The equipment uses potentially lethal voltages. All personnel must follow the following safety guidelines:

Do not rely fully on electrical safety systems (i.e.: circuit breakers, grounded or insulated drawer and door knobs).

Verify that the safety devices are working.

Shut off power supplies when servicing the equipment, and disconnect the mains supply cable.

Be aware that the safety devices are designed for ordinary access points. Hazardous circuitry may be revealed if the equipment is taken apart or opened.

Discharge the capacitors. Hazardous voltage may remain in the capacitors after power is shut off, allow time for them to discharge.

WARNING: DO NOT BE MISLEAD BY THE TERM "LOW VOLTAGE" (LV). A 50-VOLT

SHOCK CAN BE FATAL.

ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) HAZARDS

In order to protect the components and printed circuits against electrostatic discharges, wear an electrostatic discharge bracelet and connect the free end to an electrical ground before performing any work on electric circuitry.

Take the following precautions:

Do not remove electricity-sensitive electronic circuitry from its protective packaging until it is ready for installation.

Once you have removed the electronic circuit from its protective packaging, do not put it down until it is installed in the equipment or replaced in its protective packaging.

LITHIUM BATTERIES.

Batteries are only to be replaced using the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.

DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
