Analysis
2.2 Prerequisites
The following prerequisites, or the applicable portions of, shall be satisfactorily completed prior to starting the performance of this test procedure.
2.2.1 Verify all equipment has been installed in accordance with reference 2.1.1 and is ready to test.
Signature Date
3.0 General Notes
3.1 All data observed during the performance of this test must be regarded as significant. If sufficient space is not provided for the recording of required test data, it should be made on an attachment to the test procedure.
3.2 Completed test procedures shall be completely filled in, dated, signed and/or initialed at each entry as indicated. If certain data called for is not recorded, an entry shall be made in Section 6.0 explaining the missing information.
3.3 Any substitution of components or equipment during the course of the test must carry complete documentation, i.e. cleanliness, calibration information, etc. This information shall be recorded in the applicable sections of the test procedure.
3.4 Discrepancies and/or omissions encountered during the performance of this test shall be reported to the engineer responsible for the component/system. The discrepancy or omission shall be recorded in Section 6.0.
3.5 Deviations from this test procedure or changes in the installation from approved drawings shall not be made without prior approval from the engineer responsible for the system. Deviations must be recorded in Section 6.0 and ultimately must be approved by all reviewers of the test procedure.
3.6 Where tolerances are specified for the test data, every effort shall be made to meet such tolerances. Where not possible, the engineer responsible for the system shall be notified immediately. Any changes to the specified tolerances will require concurrence from the engineer responsible for the system.
3.7 All minor changes made during the performance of the test must be recorded in Section
6.0. Actual changes shall be initialed and dated by the engineer responsible for the system.
3.8 For the derivation of the test loads as shown in Table 1 refer to the appendices in Ref.
2.1.3.
4.0 Test Equipment, Consumables and Miscellaneous Topics
4.1 Calibrated Test Equipment
The following test equipment shall be in calibration prior to the performance of this test procedure.
Refer to Ref. 2.1.1 for identifier definitions (V1, V2 & H1) and model numbers for load cells and indicators.
Instrument Description Serial No. Cal Date Cal Due Date Force Sensing Clevis Pin (V1) Force Sensing Clevis Pin (V2)
Tension Link (H1) Tension Link Load Indicator (H1)
Clevis Pin Load Indicator (V1) Clevis Pin Load Indicator (V2)
4.2 General Test Equipment
4.2.1 3000 psi capable Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU). Low flow or hand/foot powered is acceptable.
4.2.2 Time piece / clock.
4.2.3 Hydraulic torque wrench for tightening 1.5-6 bolts to approximately 2,780 ft-lbf for the assembly of bases as described in reference 2.1.2.
4.2.4 Crane capable of lifting all components of the LARS Base and Test Fixture (<11,000 lbf).
4.2.5 Straps, slings and hoisting equipment capable of lifting LARS Base assemblies and Test Fixture components (5,000 lb or greater per lift point),
4.2.6 Miscellaneous shackles, pins, etc. necessary to attach straps, slings and other hoisting equipment to crane from items being hoisted
4.3 Test Consumables
4.3.1 None
4.4 Safety Precautions
4.4.1 All applicable company safety regulations and requirements shall be followed during the performance of this test.
4.4.2 Only personnel directly involved in the execution of this test shall be in the test area.
Personnel performing tests must not stand on or underneath items being hoisted. All applicable company safety regulations and requirements shall be followed during the performance of this test
4.4.3 No personnel shall be in the test area while the LARS Base and Test Fixture are under load.
4.5 Hazardous Material/Waste Notes
4.5.1 Hydraulic Oil and materials contaminated with hydraulic oils must be stored and / or disposed of according to local, state and federal regulations.
5.0 Test Procedure
Use references 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 to locate equipment.
Load cell / cylinder pairs are identified using labels defined in Ref. 2.1.1.
CAUTION
No personnel shall be in the test area while the LARS Base and Test Fixture are under load.
5.1 Assemble test equipment. Check all bolted connections for loose bolts – tighten if necessary.
5.2 Turn on load cell monitors.
5.3 Zero load cell reading from all three load cells.
5.4 Turn on HPU and set regulator to 3000 psi. Check for leaks.
5.5 Slowly increase the load to the target reading (see Table 1) on first the H1 cylinder then the
V1/V2 cylinders by closing the appropriate pressure regulator valve and reading the load cell monitor(s). Note that once all three load cells are at the target load, record load cell readings in Table 1 and start time. After 10 minutes have elapsed, again, record time and load.
Table 1 Load cell Target Load
(-0 / +2000 lbf) Measured load
Start Measured load
Stop
V1 51,000 lbf
V2 51,000 lbf
H1 166,000 lbf
Start Time: Stop Time:
5.6 Slowly release pressure individually from all three cylinders by opening the pressure regulator valves individually. Release the V1/V2 cylinders first then the H1 cylinder. Verify load cell monitors read zero.
5.7 Perform a visual inspection of the components of the LARS Base checking for any permanent deformation or cracking.
5.8 Shut down HPU and load cell monitors.
5.9 Remove test fixture frame and loose components from LARS Base. Disassemble test fixture.
6.0 Notes and Test Review
6.1 Notes. List any changes or deviations from this test procedure, along with justification.
6.2 Reviewer Notes. Test reviewer shall verify the test performed has met the objectives of the test procedure.
