5.0 Test Procedures
Recommend at least one tag line be affixed to the corner of any item hoisted to allow control of orientation and sway.
Record raw data using units native to the measuring device. Include units of measurement in data record.
5.1 Weight and CG test of LARS Base assemblies
This test is to be completed for each of the four base assemblies (items 1, 2, 3 & 4 in Reference 2.1.1).
5.1.1 Arrange the four floor load cells on shop floor in a 377” X 55” rectangle as shown in Figure 1.
Note that dimensions are from the centers of the load cell. Mark each load cell with a number as noted in Figure 1.
5.1.2 Set all four floor load cells to read zero. Initial column in Table 3 when scales are zeroed.
5.1.3 Hoist LARS Base assembly using swivel hoist rings onto floor load cells as shown in Figure 2 for the outboard bases and Figure 3 for the inboard bases – note the orientation of the base and the numbering of the load cells. Disconnect all lifting equipment from swivel hoist rings and move away from LARS base.
5.1.4 Measure and record the distance from reference edge to Datum A (REFA) in Table 1. This is the distance from the edge nearest load cells 1 and 3 or the aft edge of the LARS base assembly (see Figure 2).
5.1.5 Measure and record the distance from reference edge to Datum B (REFB) in Table 2. This is the distance from the edge nearest load cells 3 and 4 (see Figure 3).
5.1.6 Read and record the output from all four floor load cells in Table 3.
5.1.7 Calculate the weight (Wb) and center of gravity in the lateral and longitudinal directions (CGx and CGy) using the following formulas, and record in Table 4:
Wb = R1+R2+R3+R4
CGx (inches) = (377” * (R2+R4) / Wb) + REFA
CGy (inches) = (55” * (R1+R2) / Wb) + REFB
5.1.8 Repeat Section 5.1 for three remaining LARS base assemblies.

5.2 Weight determination of Installation fixtures
This test is to be completed for the Forward Installation Fixture and the Aft Installation Fixture (items 6 & 7 in Reference 2.1.1).
5.2.1 Attach in-line load cell and slings to installation fixture as shown in Figure 4. Note that the forward installation fixture has two designated lift point shackles, the aft fixture does not. Use an appropriate attachment technique to attach the slings to the aft installation fixture.
5.2.2 Set the in-line load cell to read zero prior to attaching slings to crane. Initial column in Table 5 when scale is zeroed.
5.2.3 Attach lifting gear to crane.
5.2.4 Lift installation fixture approximately 1 foot above surface and record weight displayed by in-line load cell indicator into Table 5. Lower fixture back onto surface until slings are slack.

5.2.8 Repeat Section 5.2 for remaining installation fixture.
5.3 Weight determination of Adapter plates
This test is to be completed for the cylinder pin and heel pin template (Ref. 2.1.2). The bearing blocks (items #3 and 7 in Ref. 2.1.2) are not weighed in this test, therefore only the adapter plates, swivel hoist rings and hardware are required to be installed.
5.3.1 Attach in-line load cell and slings to adapter plate as shown in Figure 5. Note that the adapter plate has four swivel hoist rings designated for lifting.
5.3.2 Set in-line load cell to read zero prior to attaching slings to crane. Initial column in Table 8 when scale is zeroed.
5.3.3 Attach lifting gear to crane.
5.3.4 Lift adapter plate approximately 1 foot above surface and record weight displayed by in-line load cell indicator into Table 8. Lower adapter plate back onto surface until slings are slack.

5.4 Weight determination of HPU Support beams and loose grating
This test is to be completed for items 17, 19, 20 and 23 in ref. 2.1.1. Note that for weighing items 19 and 20, weigh the total amount of each item (i.e. there are 2 pieces of item 19, therefore weigh both pieces simultaneously).
5.4.1 Set shipping scale to read zero prior to placing item on scale. Initial column in Table 11 when scale is zeroed.
5.4.2 Place item to be weighed onto shipping scale and record weight displayed into Table 11.
Remove item from scale.

7412986-1 (item # 23)
5.4.3 Repeat Section 5.4 for the remaining items.
5.5 Weight totals and CG location for LARS Base LSEC in the installed condition.
5.5.1 Copy each required longitudinal moment arm (CGx) and weight into Table 12.
5.5.2 Calculate weight by summing all the individual weights and record into Table 12:
Total weight = ∑ item weight
5.5.3 Calculate item moment arm by taking the product of item weight * item CGx = item moment, summing all the moments and dividing by the total weight. Subtract 36 inches from the total and record calculated CGx. The formulas are summarized below:
Item moment = item weight * item CGx
Total moment = ∑ item moments
Moment arm = Total moment / Total weight
LARS Base LSEC longitudinal CG location from heel pin centerline reference datum:
CGx = Moment arm – 36”
