About this file

This is a Q&A document from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) responding to vendor questions regarding RFP MG-11132024 for a Storage Ring (SR) Scraper. The document includes technical clarifications about manufacturing specifications, including details about 1mm wide and 1mm deep grooves along the vessel body that are used for heater rod insertion during insitu bakeout, with flexibility to vary lengths by +/- 50mm.

The Q&A confirms that suppliers must manufacture survey components rather than use commercial parts, referencing provided drawings AL-1580-1800 and AL-1479-9428. Three subsequent questions about part specifications, hole orientation, and material requirements are all directed back to the answer about manufacturing requirements. The document includes technical diagrams showing the vessel body grooves and a cylindrical component with visible holes and features.

LBNL Response to Questions 03 Re: LBNL RFP MG-11132024 – 12/13/2024

1. What is the function of the 1 mm wide and 1 mm deep grooves all along the vessel body? May their length be shortened?

LBNL Response: These grooves are for the insertion of hearter rod for the insitu bakeout. The lengths may be varied slightly (+/- 50mm) and the routes may be changed.

2. Does the supplier need to manufacture the surveys or are they commercial components?

LBNL Response: Yes, the supplier needs to manufacture them. We have provided a drw of these items (AL-1580-1800 and AL-1479-9428)

3. If they are commercial parts, is LBNL going to free-issue them or the supplier will have to procure them? In the second case may LBNL provide a product reference

LBNL Response: Please refer to the answer to question 2.

4. The supplier sees a transversal hole probably for a countersunk screw: is its orientation important? They look randomly oriented.

LBNL Response: Please refer to the answer to question 2.

5. In case the supplier needs to manufacture them may the supplier choose the material or are there specific requirements?

LBNL Response: Please refer to the answer to question 2
