About this file
The document is a supporting design materials package for the North Terminal Complex (NTC) Concessions Program at Orlando International Airport (MCO), prepared by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) in June 2024. The comprehensive document outlines design principles, spatial strategies, and aesthetic guidelines for new concessions spaces across the airport's North Terminal Complex, which includes Landside Terminal 'A' and 'B' and four Airside Terminals. The design vision aims to transform MCO into a vibrant destination that reflects Central Florida's ecosystem, with a focus on creating unique, memorable spaces that exceed modern traveler expectations through carefully curated interior design, material selections, and concession integration strategies.
The design materials emphasize creating a cohesive environment that celebrates the region's natural landscape through four key design drivers: Flora, Fauna, Water, and Wonder. The proposed aesthetic incorporates neutral base palettes with accent colors inspired by local flora and fauna, strategic lighting, native plantings, and innovative spatial arrangements. The concessions program seeks highly individualized frontages that blend interior and terminal spaces, with specific guidelines for retail and food & beverage spaces. The document provides detailed recommendations for transitions, storefronts, circulation, finishes, lighting, and security, aiming to create a unified yet dynamic passenger experience that reflects the airport's strategic priorities of people, connection, community, and innovation.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is one of the largest commercial service airports in the United States. Servicing over 50 million passengers annually, the MCO travelers are truly unique, with more than half visiting Central Florida for leisure and all generations being represented.
In 2023, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) established strategic priorities as MCO looks to the next 20 years. With a focus on people, connection, community, and innovation, the look & feel modernization of the North Terminal Complex strives to support these goals through elevating quality and enriching the offerings throughout the airport complex.

Purpose
This document is Part 1 of a larger Look & Feel document being developed to establish the design intent and framework for the interior renovations throughout the North Terminal Complex (NTC).
Through a series of design principles, conceptual drivers, and finish recommendations, this document acts as context for concessionaire design teams to prepare and submit thoughtful solutions that feel like they were made for Central Florida and the Orlando International Airport.
The design direction established in this document will provide a modern, timeless aesthetic within the NTC to unify the various landside locations. This clean, streamlined approach will also allow for both Retail and Food & Beverage (F&B) Concessions to shine in order to contribute to revenue enhancement and a positive passenger experience.

Project Vision
Long gone are the tired rattan vacations of yesteryear and the neon lights of a 1980’s mall, Orlando International Airport (MCO) will be transformed into a lively destination between destinations.
The interiors experience will express a true sense of Central Florida while providing amenities and conveniences that exceed expectations of the modern traveler.
Through careful base building nips & tucks, strategic lighting enhancements, refreshed Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) selections, nods to the regional ecosystem, and streamlined operational tools, MCO is poised to become the new benchmark for experiential and memorable aviation destinations.

Scope Overview MCO encompasses over 11,600 acres in Central Florida and the current site plan includes a newly completed Terminal ‘C’ to the south with the original North Terminal Complex (NTC) to the north.
The NTC is comprised of the central Landside Terminal building with 3 levels and houses both Terminals ‘A’ and ‘B’. Through the use of Automated People Movers (APMs), the Landside Terminal is connected to four Airside Terminals as well as Terminal ‘C’.
The scope of this Look & Feel Document encompasses all four of the NTC Airside Terminals, their associated APM areas and key areas of the Landside Terminal on Level 3 - all of which will be carefully outlined in subsequent sections for clarity.

Design Drivers
Flora Fauna Water Wonder
A Celebration of the Layered Ecosystem of Central Florida
Design drivers were developed around four critical elements unique to the Central Florida ecosystem— local flora and fauna, the form of waterways and water bodies in the landscape, and a sense of wonder and discovery. The following pages provide a narrative and evocative images tied to each of these drivers, with an indication of how materials and forms can tie into these themes. These suggestions apply to both for the interiors refresh and concessions projects.

The Hubs are envisioned to be the central heart of each airside;
spaces that encourage dwelling through unique food and beverage and retail offerings, as well as a wide variety of seating choices that satisfy all types of travelers. The main circulation paths are defined by light neutral terrazzo, with zones of soft carpeting and custom millwork and lounge furniture underneath the atrium skylight. Portals of warm wood with integrated lighting and supergraphic gate numbers define the entryways to the concourses to ease navigation. Art installations in the center of the space give each Hub a memorable moment of surprise and delight.

Airside Concourse & Holdroom | KEY PLANS
Simplified, white and clean terrazzo flooring and zones of daylighting at the main circulation in each concourse help intuitive wayfinding and brighten the space. The holdrooms are softened by easy to maintain carpet tile, and streamlined, light finish acoustical ceiling systems.
Visual clutter through decorative elements in the ceiling has been reduced, to allow ease of wayfinding, and provide a neutral canvas for art moments, such as the mosaic floor insets as well as concession to shine.
* Note: airsides 2 and 4 are part of longer-term renovation programs that may not be implemented when initial concessions spaces are occupied.

Aspiring to feel more like an upscale marketplace than food court, the architecture surrounding the food and beverage spaces acts as a canvas, with minimal neutral piers to allow brand personalization. New millwork banquettes, trash enclosures and sculptural seating provides a visual anchor for dining and lounge seating. Together, these elements expand the choice and variety of seating postures for all types of travelers. The center of the space is a destination with art or biophilia.

Landside Retail | KEY PLAN
The Landside Retail zones are intended to evoke a vibrant urban streetscape, with engaging and enticing storefronts set off by clean, light neutral base building elements. Areas for lingering are defined by bespoke millwork and dot the passageway where space allows. Pop up ceiling zones with wood and white accents are an opportunity for lighting strategies to help balance the contrast between adjacent skylights and non-daylight areas.
