About this file
This is a Special Packaging Instruction document (DD Form 2169) for a M240 Machine Gun, 7.62MM W/E, National Stock Number 1005-01-025-8095, issued by the Department of Defense. The document specifies detailed packaging, preservation, and marking requirements for the machine gun and its components.
The packaging instruction requires disassembly of the machine gun with individual heat-sealed VCI bags for the barrel assembly, operating rod assembly, spring rod, ruptured cartridge extractor, and receiver assembly. Preservation requirements include cleaning per MIL-STD-2073-1 Method 10 with rifle bore cleaner (MIL-PRF-372) and solvent (MIL-PRF-680), thorough drying, and coating all metallic surfaces with medium preservative oil (MIL-PRF-3150) with a minimum one-hour drain period. A VCI bore tube must be installed in barrel assemblies. Components must be blocked and braced using fiberboard per specified drawings and placed in a fiberboard box with tri-folded spare barrel carrying case on top. Unit pack closure follows ASTM D1974/D1974M sealing method B. For packing quantities, twenty containers must be packed flat (four per layer) in a close-fitting container using either ASTM D6251 Level A or ASTM D5168 Level B packaging secured to a 40x48 inch pallet with metallic strapping. Marking requirements include nomenclature, part number, serial number bar codes, and a 2D bar code label for unique item identification on each unit package, with all data provided on packing lists.
