REPLACEMENT AMENDMENT 003 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
John Kelley, Contract Specialist; Contracting Officer Representative, Tanya Pardy; and Steve
Janzen, Project Manager.
Primary Contact is John Kelley / jakelley@blm.gov / 303-236-2626.
Q1: How does a Contractor submit requests for alternate products/substitutions?
A1: Alternate products/substitution requests are not accepted prior to bidding. Contractors are required to submit a bid proposal based on the specifications. If a manufacturer is not listed under the available manufacturers, as long as the product meets the listed salient characteristics it will be approved as an acceptable product. After award, the Contractor may request product substitutions per Specification
016000 - PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS.
Q2: What is the R-Value of the rigid insulation at the roof area?
A2: R-25 (6.25 per inch - long term).
Q3: The rigid insulation will have spacers for ventilation and on top of those will be sheathing for the shingles to nail to. How thick of sheathing is required and can it be OSB or does it need to be plywood?
A3: Refer to Drawing S001, Note 10.L and Specification 061600-2.3 for sheathing specifications.
Q4: Is there a reason the roof insulation calls out a glass matt facer rather than felt? In this type of application with rigid foam we typically see a felt facer.
A4: This is the Vented Nailable Base Panel manufacture’s standard.
Q5: Is the exterior stone veneer real stone or a manufacturer stone? Part 2 of 044313.16 - ADHERED
STONE MASONRY VENEER of the Specifications appears to require real stone in that it refers to obtaining the stone “from [a] single quarry with resources to provide materials of consistent quality in appearance and physical properties.” However, the drawing on Plan Page A100 Sheet 23 of 89 refers to
“river rock, manufactured stone masonry.”
A5: The exterior stone veneer is manufactured stone. CHANGE 044313.16 - 2.1.A “single quarry” to
“single manufacturer”.
Q6: Plan Page A201 Sheet 31 of 89 has two different stucco types. However both are shaded white. Can the Architect clarify the intent of what type to us where?
mailto:jakelley@blm.gov
A6: The different stucco types are differentiated by hatching on A201 and A202. It may just have plotted out as white shades. See attached drawings A201 and A202 for clarification.
Q7: We have determined that the flashing for the tubular skylights for the office building as on Sheet
A113 Detail 13 is not available. It is recommended that you authorize the same flashings as used in Sheet
A113 Detail 14 for the storage building for use on the office building. Please clarify.
A7: Provide a curb cap style flashing for the office building, similar to Detail 14.
Q8: There is no classification for Davis Bacon wages for tile setters or carpet installers on the wage determination paper work. Request the wage requirements for tile setters and carpet installers.
A8: If there is not classification for a specific worker, then it will fall under LABORER (common or general) on Page 3 of the Building Wage Rate.
Q9: There is an interference problem with the overhead door opening and portal frame on Grid Line A between frame lines 2 and 3. The door as specified will not open in the space that is allowed. Please provide clarification.
A9: Contractor shall coordinate with the overhead door manufacturer and the metal building manufacturer to provide a design that works with the 12’H door by either raising the eave height as required to accommodate the door opening or specify a portal frame that will work with the required opening.
Q10: In looking at the contract documents online with the intention of bidding the signs, I do not see any drawings of sign types. In the specs under 2.2 signs section D. Panel Sign Types it states “(See drawings)”. Maybe I missed them, but any help in this regards is appreciated.
A10: All requirements for sign types are specified in Specification 101423-Part 2. There are no drawing details. The reference to “See drawings” is in reference to the room names and numbers.
