About this file

This document is a definitions table for Braille Transcription and Duplication, providing key terminology for the National Library Service (NLS) braille production process. The table defines seven key terms related to braille document production, including "Free Matter for the Blind" (a U.S. Postal Service provision for postage-free mailing of accessible reading materials), "Source Material" (NLS-provided content in various formats), and "Production Authorization Record (PAR)" (detailed book-specific instructions). The document outlines the technical workflow for converting source materials into braille, including the use of the Producer Data Exchange (PDE) website for project communication, the requirements for a Complete Submission Package, and specifics about braille page conversion, with special attention to handling advanced formatting like charts and non-linear text.
