About this file

This document contains the results of asbestos testing on samples collected from a Salt Lake District Office renovation project being conducted by the USDA Forest Service. The samples were analyzed by Dixon Information Inc., an accredited laboratory, using EPA-approved testing methods including visual estimation and optical microscopy. A total of 27 samples were collected from various locations and materials within the building and analyzed between March and May 2021 under batch numbers 180089 and 181641. The samples consisted of ceiling tiles, drywall, flooring, insulation, mastic, concrete, and other building materials. All samples were found to contain no detectable asbestos. Detailed individual sample results are provided indicating analyzed material types and percentages found within each sample. Proper handling and testing procedures are outlined as well as limitations of the testing methods.

Dear USDA Forest Service:

Samples A44392 through A44399 have been analyzed by visual estimation based on EPA-

600/M4-82-020 December 1982 optical microscopy test method, with guidance from the

EPA/600/R-93/116 July 1993 and OSHA ID 191 methods. Appendix "A" contains statements which an accredited laboratory must make to meet the requirements of accrediting agencies. It also contains additional information about the method of analysis. Appendix "A" must be included as an essential part of this test report. This analysis is accredited under NVLAP Lab Code: 101012-0.

It does not contain data or calibrations for tests performed under the AIHA program under lab code

101579.

This report may be reproduced but all reproduction must be in full unless written approval is received from the laboratory for partial reproduction. The results of analysis are as follows:

APPENDIX "A"

"This report relates only to the items tested. This report must not be used to claim product certification, approval or endorsement by NVLAP, NIST, AIHA-LAP LLC, or any agency of the

US government."

NVLAP and AIHA-LAP LLC require laboratories to state the condition of the samples received for testing. The condition of these samples is acceptable for analysis unless there is a characteristic indicating otherwise. If a test item is not acceptable, requires a modification to the standard method, or has cause for analysis sensitivity, it will be identified by a note for that particular test item under the laboratory number on the final report. If the samples are non homogenous, a statement will be included with the sample result. Each component or sub-sample is analyzed separately. The reported results and percentages of each material type are based on the sample received by the laboratory and may not be representative of the parent material. Orientation of top and bottom may not be specified due to uncertainty of orientation.

METHODS OF ANALYSIS AND LIMIT OF DETECTION

For air count analysis, the results may be biased when interferences are noted.

The accuracy of asbestos analysis in bulk samples increases with increasing concentration of asbestos. Pigments, binders, small sample size, and multiple layers may affect the analysis sensitivity.

There are two methods for analysis of asbestos in a bulk test sample: Visual Estimation and Point Count. Visual estimation with gravimetry is the most sensitive method. If an analyst makes a patient search, 0.1% or less asbestos can be detected in a bulk sample. Point count analysis is a method with a statistical approach.

Government agencies regulate asbestos containing materials (ACM) whenever the ACM is more than 1%. EPA will not accept visual estimation to verify that trace amounts of asbestos are less than 1%. EPA requires point count to verify less than 1% asbestos content. OSHA requirements apply on samples containing any amount of asbestos.

Due to higher charge for a point count analysis, Dixon Information Inc. does not perform a point count unless authorized to do so by the customer. If a sample is point counted, when possible, various chemical and/or physical means may be used to concentrate the asbestos in the sample. This is permitted by the EPA method and it increases the accuracy of the analysis.

RADON HEALTH RISK INFORMATION:

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking. The more elevated a home's radon level, the greater the health risk to you and your family. Smokers and former smokers are at especially high risk.

Radon concentration is measured in picocuries per liter of air (pCi/L). The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Surgeon General strongly recommend taking further action when the home's radon test results are 4 pCi/L or greater. Even homes with very high levels can be reduced below 4 pCi/L. The EPA recommends that you use a NRPP/NRSB or state-approved contractor to correct radon problems. Radon levels less than 4 pCi/L still pose some risk and in many cases may be reduced. If the radon level in your home is between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L, The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Surgeon General recommend that you consider correcting the problem in your home.

*The measured radon level was lower than the detector's Lower Limit of Detection. Visit DrHomeAir.com/LLD for info

If your test result is below 2 pCi/L you do not need to take further action at this time. The EPA recommends you retest every few years, and whenever you renovate the home.

If your test result is between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L you should consider taking further action.

If this is your first test, consider testing again to confirm your initial reading. The EPA recommends that you consider fixing your home if the average of multiples tests is above 2 pCi/L. If you do not fix the home, test every 2 years to confirm your radon levels are not rising.

If your radon level is 4 pCi/L or greater you should take further action. If this is your first test, The EPA recommends you conduct another test to confirm your initial reading. If you have tested multiple times and the average of those tests is above 4 pCi/L, you should fix your home.

WHAT DO MY TEST RESULTS MEAN?

HOW DANGEROUS IS MY RADON LEVEL?

If your radon level is at or above 4 pCi/L, you should fix your home. If your radon level is between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L, you may wish to fix your home. For most homes, radon levels can be lowered to 2 pCi/L or lower.
