About this file

This is a General Requirements specification document for construction work at Fermilab's Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, serving as the basis for subcontractor solicitation related to argon piping installation for the DUNE experiment.

The scope of work requires installation of stainless steel piping in three segments: 8-inch Schedule 40 pipe in a surface trench between the argon receiving facility and Ross Headframe, 6-inch Schedule 10 pipe through the Ross shaft from ramp level to 4850L depth, and 8-inch Schedule 10 pipe from the shaft to the central utility cavern at 4850L. The subcontractor must provide all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, supervision, and quality control necessary for complete and functional installation per industry standards and regulatory requirements. FFDG (Fermi Forward Discovery Group) will not furnish materials but may provide limited 120V electrical power and hand tools; 480V power is available upon request. The subcontractor is responsible for utility locates, as existing utility drawings are unreliable, and must coordinate with the Construction Coordinator 48 hours prior to any system de-energization. Key administrative requirements include submission of insurance certificates, performance bonds, project hazard analysis, cost-loaded construction schedule, and soil erosion/sediment control plan within ten business days of award. The project includes defined milestones from Notice to Proceed through final acceptance, with weekly progress meetings, monthly schedule updates, and comprehensive quality control documentation and punch list tracking required throughout execution. The subcontractor must maintain as-built drawings with daily red-line markups and submit final as-built documentation, shop drawings, warranty information, and operations manuals prior to final acceptance.
