Boarding Pass Scanners (BPS)

HSTS04-14-R-CT2043

Questions & Responses 08/08/2014

1. What is the criterion that defines a paper/mobile boarding pass? Is it the barcode type or the inclusion of field 25?

Response: There are two variants of boarding passes: electronic and paper. Electronic are comprised of print at home and mobile phone boarding passes which are digitally signed. Paper is comprised of those printed at the kiosk in the airport and from the ticket counter, which for the most part are not digitally signed, but there are exceptions.

2. If a paper boarding pass includes a certificate, should that certificate be verified?

Response: The Functional Requirements Document (FRD) does not provide direction on how to handle certificates. It is up to the vendor to decide how this should be done.

3. Is it true that boarding pass barcodes, regardless of format, from any airlines not listed in the RFI should be rejected?

Response: If the airline is not a mobile boarding pass participant or TSA Pre-Check, the BPS should display an error message.

4. Is there a specific order that conditions that generate error messages (incorrect flight date, certificate validation, etc.) should be evaluated in? (e.g. airline code then date) Response: This is up the vendor.

5. Are multi-segment barcodes to be considered?

Response: The BPS should read all valid mobile boarding passes and TSA Pre-Check boarding passes.
